I think I own one of the oldest bala sharks

My bala shark is a decent sized oldie, he is around 13 (almost 14) years old, and he lives in a 125 gallon, he is active, and somewhat of a people fish (at least towards me). (That white thing at bottom is not a dead fish, it’s fish food for our redtail black shark and pleco)

He does not stay still long enough for me to get a ruler against the glass, but I’d say he is around... 8-9 inches

Does he have any tank mates?

Yes, he has a school of 3 albino Buenos Aires tetras with 1 rainbow fish, as well as a redtail black shark, and a small common pleco

Yes the bala’s large size and that fact he isn’t really a bottom feeder allows for them to get along perfectly

I had 2 redtails as well, but our dominant female made the other hide, until he died in one of the tanks ich outbreaks

I don’t think that’s uncommon. Maybe it makes a difference if one of them is 9”.

Lovely when a fish the size of your finger grows to be the size of your forearm
Still an amazing fish and one of my favorites to watch at the pet store, even if I can't take them home...

I had them in a 90 but they jumped. Had 3 first jumped so I coved the tank. Over the next year the other 2 found ways to jump out.

Balas are typically jumpers?
