I stopped at Petco...

So I stopped at petco last night because I was bored. I should’ve known to stayed away from the betta section. I found a gorgeous mustard and blue male with almost his entire tail bitten off. I’ve been keeping fish off and on my whole life, but I’ve never tried to save one this bad. It actually kept me from sleeping last night. I just felt so bad for him. My question is if I go buy him, will his tail ever grow back in or is he a lost cause?

I try to stay away from the betta section because I’m a softy and I always end up with another rescue whether I have a tank open for them or not. My SO is no help with the self control either. He’s a softy too and always tells me to go buy the fish and get a tank for it lol
This is why i can't take my wife to stores like Petsmart...anyplace that has kitties up for adoption....always turns into me looking at fush stuff and her coming up "i found a kitty that needs to go home with us, if you do the paperwork i will pay!!"

I haven’t posted an update on this little guy in a long while. His tail is coming along great!
Such a pretty boy! Great job on rescuing him and nursing him back! I’m sure he’s much happier with you!

He sure seems happier! He’s constantly up at the front of his tank saying hi and begging for food lol

Awww. It’s always a love/hate thing for me when I go to a pet store and look at the bettas in the cups. Bettas are so pretty but it makes me mad/sad that they have to suffer and sometimes die in those little cups. I always want to reduce them but I don’t have room, time, or money for it and I know that stores will just get more and do the same thing. It shouldn’t be allowed to sell fish in small cups like that.

I don’t go in and buy all of the sick bettas they have because it won’t do any good. Like you said, they’ll just buy more and I’d be overrun with tanks in no time but if I see one that I think I can save and I have the extra money to buy them and a tank setup then I’ll go ahead and buy them. It’s usually one that I really like the colors, personality, etc anyway.
