I saw some betta sororities at the pet store

The pet store had betta sororities in 3 of the glofish tanks (tetras only). The weird part is that there were 3 bettas in each tank and each tank was about 10 gallons in size, but there were also like 20 tetras per tank. The bettas were sizable marbled crowntail females, no signs of aggression or fighting, and seemed totally cool with each other. They would bump into each other without a care. Huh. Neat.
I guess this is way better than the cups. The tanks were clean and the tetras looked healthy, too.

If you have to also remember that the displays in the LFS are short term and not long term placements. Fishes are always being bought and restock constantly

I know, but wouldn't that make them more likely to fight? By being in a turbulent and stressful environment like that? Plus, if someone buys one of them, then there's only 2. If another is added, then a stranger fish would be put in with the two who are already familiar with each other.

10 gallons only last about 6 months imo.

the fish get too big and need more room.

it's like a college dorm, temporary aslong term will drive you batty

I have had 3 and 5 females in a 10 gallon. the 3 was temporary. I added 2 more females after a few weeks.

my original sororities went from 10 gallon to 20 long
my new juveniles went from 10 gallon to my 38 community tank a week ago.

I really like the 38 community tank for them - less chasing ( territory issues ) , and they eat together - all come to 1 side of the tank where I am.

They really enjoy the swim space.

trade off, the 20 gallon is heavily planted and the more mature fish ( all over 1 year) enjoy relaxing. very few tiffs
