I Put the TSS In, I Took The Old Stuff Out, I Put The Fishies In...Now?

I certainly will not be shaking them all about!! haha I apologize for my silly humor lol

Well as the title suggests, I put the TSS in my 20 gallon high tank on 2/9, added my 5 Glofish and 6 ghost shrimp and just out of curiosity I tested the water. Results were .25 ammonia 0.0 nitrites and 10 nitrates. That's good right?!?! I know TSS can take up to 2 weeks to get a hold of my tank, so I just want to be sure!! Cycling a tank feels so good!!

That being said, I was wondering when I could begin imtroducing more fish without messing things up. I would like to add a school (5) Black Skirt Tetra. When I do, do I need to use TSS again to help the bacteria with the bio load, or do I just keep an eye on the water quality and do frequent water changes until the baterica catches up?

I don't want to rush things, I'm just worried that if I wait too long, my Glofish will become territorial towards new fish after being in such a spacious tank all to themselves. They great along great with each other, ive just noticed where each of them likes to hang out in particular and don't want that to become an issue later.

Thank you so much for your time and help!!

Welcome to FishLore!!

Looks like things are going well.
Imo, let the TSS do it's job before adding fish.

Good luck!

I would wait 4-6 weeks before adding anything else.Let the tank get fully established. You shouldnt have to add tss once it is established.

I would let your tank finish its cycle first. Once you get stable readings of 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite and measurable nitrate then and only then would I add more fish.

After your tank cycles, you will not need to add more TSS with the addition of new fish. After you add fish, monitor your parameters just in case anything spikes. If there is a spike in ammonia or nitrite, you will have to start doing water changes with a ammonia detoxifer until your tank re-stabilizes.

I personally think you have been given great advice on the use of TSS. Don’t do any more testing for two weeks because the wacky readings could cause you to do something to cause the cycle process to fail. Just leave it alone and lightly feed your fish for the next two weeks.

I would also suggest that once the tank is cycled don’t rush out and purchase a bunch of new fish for a few more weeks. Give the tank time to become stable before you add more fish.

Personally I don’t think you will have much of an issue between the Glofish and the Black Skirts because the Glofish will stick mostly to the top area of the tank and the Black Skirts will hang mostly in the mid area but will venture to all level of the tank.

The Black Skirts will be the problem children in my opinion as far as nipping goes. This can normally be controlled with larger schools of at least 6 to 8. The Glofish are going to be much quicker than the Black Skirts are so I don’t think they will bother them much.
