I need to get rid of a lot of fry fast..

A couple weeks ago, my guppy gave birth. After she gave birth, I sold her to someone locally. I still had one female left and I had no idea she was going to give birth so soon but I was trying to sell her before she gave birth. I found a buyer today for the pregnant female guppy but of course, I got stood up and what do ya know, I now have about 20 fry in my 10 gallon along the my rasboras and two guppies.

My one gallon already has enough fry in it and I cannot fit these anywhere. Does anybody know what I can do with these? I doubt my lfs wants them and I don't know if they would survive being shipped anywhere. I accidentally sucked up a few when I was cleaning my gravel but I was too lazy to scoop them out of a bucket so eventually they died. I never thought having guppy fry would be so annoying. My roommate has a 10 gallon with a betta and some mollies. You think I could just feed it to them? I'm not going to feed the fry so I would rather them not die in my tank. Also, don't bother asking me to ship them to you because I'm broke and I don't want to have to deal with all the hassle.

Its called craigslist- just try to sell to people who care. Or, you could feed the fry to the other fish.

welllll it may sound horrible and cruel and heartless, but if you can't get them to a petstore, or find them homes, A large scale cull may be in order. Id check a LFS imo.

Oh poor poor fry. Sometimes, though what needs to happen happens.

Also, a note to the poster, you seem to be over run with fry, and while working on taking care of that problem, I would recommend getting a divider or 2 separate tanks to separate male and females and keep more problems from occurring because with 5 females persay, you'll be getting around 5 fry/day average and I doubt you'll be able to give them away that fast. Try to find a pet store that can take it for around $0.10/fry in cash or store credit.

I'm sure you could put up an add for feeders and have no trouble unloading the CONTINUAL batches of fry. You'll likely only have to deal with one or two people.

I already tried that dude. That's how I sold my first guppy. When I posted the second female, I also posted an ad for my guppy fry just in case. One week in and still no responez

Now, this may sound stalkerish but if you hang around the fish store...eves drop a little you may find someone who owns an oscar or maybe a knife that can help you. Have you tried just selling/giving them to the fish store yet?

If I was 3,000 miles closer I would take all in a heartbeat I plan on moving all my guppies to my 75 gallon next week now that it is cycled

shipping?

I'm not sure why you are asking JessiNoel about shipping.

markah1 clearly stated in the first post not to ask about shipping.
If you're refering to JessiNoel's guppies, please do not turn this into a b/s/t thread.

shipping?

He said he would not ship I was just stating if I lived closer I would take them in a heartbeat. Seeing I will have the room.

i'd be using the fry as feeders. and if you have nothing who would eat them....find something that could

I would just use them as feed for other fish
or buy a fish that would eat them like lots of other people said.
you may as well make use of them as food for other fish

Good morning,

You could try posting in the Fish Lore/B/S/T/F section. Perhaps there is a member close enough to you that they could drive and pick up some of these fry:

Best of luck!

go and drop them off at your pet shop

Place an add on free cycle. Within 24 hours, someone will come pick up the fish you don't want, guaranteed.

Did you not realize a guppy was a livebearer?

yeah I never keep livebearers, unless I have a way to get rid of too many fry.....which I do (feeding them to my cichlids)

petco told me today that they take an abundance of fry. The catch is they put them up for free adoption meaning they can end up anywhere from someone's beloved pet, to another fish's lunch to a science experiment or something. But as long as you don't care go for it.

My oscars love the molly fry, I have a constant supply from my brother's all molly tank.

Good morning,

Please remember to check the dates of the Original Post before responding. More than likely, this issue has already been resolved.

Thanks!

Ken
