I Need Help Sexing Mystery Snails

klr1029

Hi, I'm new to this forum, and to keeping snails and the more I've read about breeding mystery snails the more interesting it sounds to me. I have 3 mystery snails, an ivory, a blue and a black? (It's from petco and that's what they called it). I'm pretty sure the ivory is a male and the little blue is too small to get a good look so I just need help with the black. If I'm wrong about the ivory any help would be appreciated, thank you

Betta Obsessed

Their sex organs are hidden inside their shells so the only way to know is if they mate and the female lays eggs.

I have a good example picture of how to tell from above the shell rather than looking inside (though males even as small as a quarter are easy because they are trying to mate with other snails at this point even if they are other males). The blue is a female, she does not have the hook shape the males' shells do. The jade and gold are both males (as all my jades seem to turn out male??) they have a more trumpet shaped shell from above as viewed in the pictures. I know they are female and males as I had seen the blue lay eggs (and she was the only snail in the tank at the time as well), and had seen both the males sex organs when they attempted to breed. You should be able to see a sack like fleshy bit on the males when you look inside that the females will lack, this is locating to the right of their head (left when looking at them).
