I need help setting up a 10 gallon quarantine tank.

I want a 10 gallon gallon fish tank (quarantine) for my 38 gallon fish tank

What supplies will I need

Do I need substrate?

No, not necessarily. You still need a heater and perhaps a sponge or HOB filter, thermometer, separate nets and bucket. Keep some beginning meds and cures like aquarium salt, General Cure, ICH treatment, Paraguard, Melafix and antibiotics for specific needs. A cave or fake plant to make your fish feel at home is nice too.

For a quarantine tank:
No substrate, filter (no carbon in filter if you're medicating) and heater), make sure your filter is using established media if you're doing bare bottom/no plants in quarantine tank.

Give the fish somewhere to hide, I typically like ceramic or pvc, something I can disinfect easily between quarantine batches.
