Usually hole in the head fixes itself with clean water and a good diet.

Okay, you could return the fish or treat him. Hole-in-the-head disease is curable.

Here is a better picture, could that disease spread to my other fish? And how could I cure it?

Do a water change to keep the water clean, make sure to feed him well, and (if you can) I recommend adding a medication to help speed up the process.

There's a few theories about what causes it. Poor water quality, poor diet or a parasite. The most widely excepted treatment is simply clean water and a good diet. Meds are rarely needed.

Ok and do I have to worry about it spread in to other fish?

Ok I will order some in the morning since I’m having issues with my water at the moment

In poor water conditions it won't matter what you add. Poor water effects the potency of most meds making then almost useless.

As he said, you should do a water change and try to improve the quality before using medication.

The hole in the head thing isn't an immediate threat. Yes it needs treated but you have time to get your straightened out.

If I return the fish, will my other fish have a chance and getting the disease?

  17. david1978 Fishlore Legend Member

No its nothing that can spread.

    Ok thank you

I guess that's the reason personally I wouldn't return it since it poses no harm to your current fish.
