10 Gallon Tank I need a plant suggestion...

I'm trying to fill out the back of my tank. I'm planning to add large patches of moneywort and water sprite to the right and left sides, but I need something in the middle to baffle the filter and fill out. I was thinking some kind of amazon sword, but hose get really big, so maybe some kind of dwarf sword, or would a small amazon sword be ok? Here is a visualization of what I'm planning...

Maybe some jungle vals all along the back? Those grow tall enough to cover the filter anyways...

Wouldn't the jungle vals get thrashed about by the filter? Also, I don't think my water is very good for vals, mine is yellowing in the picture and it has gotten worse.

Idk, whatever you think. It's a bump anyways, hopefully some more talented aquascapers than me will come along. I don't know many plants as a goldfish keeper . Best of luck!

I was going to say Vals as well. However another good one that has a different leaf structure and gets BIG is Pogostemon stellatus octopus. Great background plant

A large species of anubias should be able to handle some flow, and won't grow as large as a full sized sword.

I was thinking Anubias Nangi...would that work?

I'm going to be honest—the only anubias I have in my tank is nana petite! So I'm no expert, but I've seen photos of some pretty massive anubias plants, and they're so dang sturdy that you shouldn't have to be worried about baffling your filter flow.

I really like the look of the melon sword

I think anubias golden and barteri are tough.

You could always go with a giant bunch of java ferns. They can get as tall as the tank has room for them to grow and I think the different shaped leaves of a sword or a fern of some sort would add some really nice texture between your stem plants. Java fern is also great near filters since its got such tough leaves and is usually tied to a rock. It’s generally my go to background plant in most tanks/scapes since if you can get 3-4 ferns and place them close together it can look as dense and bushy as any sort of dutch aquascape stem plants with the added bonus of different textuee.

I was going to also suggest Java fern, particularly something like trident or windolov. They both really bushy plants and will help fill out the tank and give the impression of a well planted scape once settled in! ^_^

Another plant I would suggest looking into is bolbitis. It can outgrow a 10g easily, however a small patch in one of the corners would fill it out and offer nice leaf texture/colour IMO.

Go with a bunch of hairgrass, it's make it looks like a jungle.

Do you think I could tie like 4-ish java ferns together and just have a giant clump? Also is any type of java fern better or looks better in your opinion? (Wendelov, trident, etc.)

I'm just now seeing this, but have you considered water wisteria? It's strong enough to stand up fairly well to the flow from a HOB, and can be easily trimmed to control the height (and you can use the cuttings to make more plants).

Yup, personally I do really like the trident ferns but just the standard “java fern” also looks great. Needle leaf is also a good option but since the leaves are so small you may have to buy larger portions to get them to fill out well.

Ya I think the trident java fern looks the "bushiest", I'll use that. Do you know any good places to get them? (Maybe online, or if they're in like petco or something)

I was already gonna use a clump of that in the right corner to sub out for the water sprite

I would check ebay. That’s usually my go to for plants. If you can find them at Petco it may be cheaper but usually Java Fern Trident is a more uncommon plant and you’ll have to be carful about algae (all my LFS and Local Petcos have terrible infestations) because once that stuff gets in your tank it can be hard to make it go away. A lot of ebay sellers have But 2 Get 1 Free deals that should be helpful if you’re aiming to get a few plants. Just be sure to look at the pictures to make sure the portion is more than just two or three leaves. I personally like the ebay store Your Fish Stuff but I’m not certain they carry the Trident Variation. But if they do I would definitely check that out as last time I ordered 1 Pot of Java Fern from them I got 3 plants with 4-5 leaves each.
