Went to my petco today to look at the bettas, they always have a nice selection, and their cups are always clean and clear

There was a chick working by the bettas, said they just got a shipment of female crowntails in. I asked if they ever would get plakats, and there were a few. I picked up a DT HM

Then I'm looking at the rest, and one guy is HUGE like he looks at least 2 years old huge, (not a king) and his analfin is a bit torn up, which I mentioned. She said actually that guy I saved - the shipment he came in had a couple DOA and he was looking bad and I nursed him back to health, so of course I had to take him - it felt meant to be lol

I complimented her on actually taking care of them, that I was so glad someone in a store is b/c all the other stores that carry bettas just break my heart how sad a condition they are in.

Then the guy checking me out was trying to school me on how it's neat that there was originally only one type of betta, but they were bred into all diffferent sorts of breeds and tail types ;D lol - I was thinking how I probably knew more than he does about bettas, but I'm glad that he does know!

Yes, pics will come once they are settled in, I don't want to frighten them with the flash just yet. They look curious and healthy, besides the halfmoon's tail.

LOL Lynda, that's the greatest thing I've heard all day (and in high school, where most of my friends are in Anime Club, I hear some pretty great things XD)

My Petco is similar, cajun. They keep their betta cups really nice and their tanks are usually pretty clean and free of dead fish (they clean the dead ones out whenever they see them). Their staff leaves something to be desired, as the store manager and the aquatics department manager are the only ones who have even the slightest clue what they're talking about.

 

Wow, I have to say I'm surprised to hear about this!

The ones around here aren't all that good. But, I'm glad at least some of them are taking above-average care of their bettas and other stock. Have you two thought about mentioning your opinions to the store managers, or even the district managers? People in general seem to spend more time complaining to stores about what they don't like vs. praising stores for what they're doing right. I'll bet that praise from some customers would go a long way toward maintaining a good standard of care. Just a thought.

Ok, ok! LOL I just finished editing (read: sizing them down and converting to jpg) I could not get great pics of the 2 newest guys - the lavender halfmoon isn't comfy yet, and the pkt? Well, won't keep still LOL. I'm including the other 2, older, new guys that I've never shown off. The teeny tiny one is Squirt, Abby's (my dd) betta. He is such a tiny little thing! Only about an inch long. Very immature, wouldn't even flare at his reflection, and he swam right up to it.

The tank is the dt hm pkt's tank. Forgot to get one of the other one.

Also, I need help with names! I am not doing HP names anymore - feels like bad luck now...

I actually love petco now too my local petco used to have dead/dying bettas all the time and the cups they were kept in were absolutely atrocious: dirty water, used/dirty cups, etc. however, they recently remodeled and rearranged the aisles and everything, and ever since then the conditions the bettas have been kept in have been PRISTINE (I mean as great of conditions as you can make for a small cup haha).

but yeah that's my little spiel glad to hear their stepping their game up all over and not just in my petco!

They're really beautiful! I don't know what it is about a betta's grumpy little face that makes me smile.

The little pale dude with the spiky finnage...... He looks like "Ghost" to me.....

By the way, my Petco has recently really stepped up to the plate in the Fish Dept. They have hired someone specifically to run the department and she does a great job.

And guys the butterfly halfmoon is TOTALLY colored up today, I have to get a pic- his coloring is so deep!

eta: pics - the flash picked up all his iridescence but IRL he looks much more lavender I'll have to get him w/o flash - maybe in my light box someday.

Beautiful bettas! My LFS never have HM bettas....only VT and CT ::sniff:: I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to get my hands on a HM!

Beautiful fish, I love how the last one is intrigued by your finger, my newest one attacked mine when I put it in for a while, He's now taken to flaring 24/7. As he is in a tank by himself, beside my bed which is empty all day and at weekends, this is some achievement...

Her never used to flare at all, despite using a mirror, but as he is growing up (he was tiny when bought), he seems to be more of a show-off. Maybe yours will be the same, lets hope so, what's your house without a good bit of betta attitude?!!

 

Yup, he flares at my finger half the time I put it up. He has the best personality next to Fleur
