I love my female betta

I had to share. She's just adorable. She does like Michelle's. She comes close to my finger so I can stroke her. Awwwww. She's so fabulous. She always wants to play too. She's just like a cat. So I'll 'annoy' her by moving the leaves on a plant or something, and she'll pretend she doesn't care, then dashes for my finger. It's really funny. She'll chase my hand in the tank for hours. When I let her approach, she takes a nibble, then waits, as if to say: go on, then, do the chase thing again. She's a-do-ra-ble. I can't believe what a great fish she is.

Re: I looooove my female bettaS

But Callum, I've always had you down as a big tank kind of guy, LOL. I can't imagine you with a 5G and a betta somehow! Orange sounds gorgeous!

Re: I looooove my female bettaS

well if my experience is anything to go by, I'd get a female. They're less pretty in general, but if my two are a significatnt example, the female is way more attached to her carer.

You could do that in a 10G with a partition. Do you have the room for that?

Aren't they sweet?? Little Lotus is soooooooo small, but she is full of attitude!! When I pass her tank, she is right there to watch me, and she kinda does the "tail wag" thing that Storm used to do, but it is funnier, cuz there is no tail to speak of, hers is like this beautiful transparent fan!

I can't say yet that she responds more than the boys, since I seem to have terribly social boys, who are jealous if I talk to one of their mates, and eat up every bit of attention they can manage - which is a lot. Now I have to divide my time between these fish and 4 cats----how can I possibly fit housework in............(yay)

Lotus rules her tank, and I am glad she has the cory roomies, who mostly ignore her, but I think Sammy has a crush on her, seems to follow her at a distance, and is totally enamoured!! ( Well in my mind ). Scooter just tells her " You're not the boss of me"......

So happy the girls are getting their dues.........as in the human world...GIRLS RULE!!

Pebbles is the same way. She sees me walk into the room and she watches every move I make. RJ a lot of times if he sees me he'll freeze like a statue and just stare at me. It's funny. Of course if he knows he's going to get food he'll wiggle his whole body for me begging to feed him first. They are characters.

I'm glad that you are enjoying her, armadillo. Natalie

Great stuff, Callum. Hope you have a great time in the fish store! I just found a new one which looked really promising on the internet and they were soooo uncaring to their fish. Argh!

But did you take lots of pix, then? We can piece them together in our mind to imagine the size. Maybe with someone next to it for scale.

Oh Callum, you DIDN't take pictures? You're forgetting who your friends are, young man!

My male betta greets me when I do my fish watching. I watch my fish for an hour or so. I also play with them. They enjoy the company.

I just got another little female (and tank) today. I'm in trouble with husband for it, but I'll get him to look into her eyes to soften him up.

Just moved my male betta (the one that's depressed and suffering from very bad finrot) to a tank in the kitchen where he can see me more, and it does feel like the right thing to do. He's always coming to check what we're doing, the nosey little bugger. I love preparing their food (garlic, peas, worms, you know the deal) in front of him.

Another one!!! Oh lucky you!!! Honey will only eat peas at the moment, spits everything else out, I think she is sulking as for one I am staying away so we aren't watching tv together and also the light I her tank has gone, sorting that out today!

Have I said that we have moved Spot into the kitchen as he was getting depressed? He's really coming into his own, has started to half Flare at stuff. God I miss my fishies being in this mad zoo ( mental rottie finally asleep!!)

Oh wow, you've also done the kitchen and light move? Funny, we live the same live, as fellow betta owners. Just moved my sick male to the kitchen to cheer him up, and am planning a trip to the stores this very afternoon to sort out a light for him, LOL.

That must be worrying, that she won't eat anything but peas. Have you tried garlic guard or something similar?

But like you say, as soon as you're done pet-sitting, she might snap out of it.

Wow, an hour! Your fish are really lucky to have you. Am lucky if I can spare 10 minute per tank. That's the problem with MTS, less time per tank. With our 7 tanks, it's getting tricky to give them loads of time and attention.

it is a worry that she won't eat. She has now been moved into the study to next to Flame and the pc that my mum is never off!!! She plays games on the net alot! So hopefully that will cheer her up. in fact I think I will go home to see her and to have a few hours mad dog (Archie the baby rottie/I love him but OMG!!!! so boistrous)free
.I will post some pics of this zoo as they are so sweet, one cat Casper is snuggled into the back of the laptop as I type!!

Right i'm off home

It could be an internal infection or parasites. Daphne refused to eat for over two weeks! After treating her for worms I gave her some Maracyn-Two and within a few days her appetite came back.
Daphne looked and acted fine except for not eating, but she obviously wasn't. Fish will tend to hide the fact they are sick until it's too late. Any change in behaviour or appetite should be suspect.

I do worry about that Phlox, I think I will put some tonic salt in her tank just incase. I have been intouch with some uk betta breeders over meds because as you know we can't get the same over here and everyone says tonic salt, the odd one or two use Melafix which I obviously won't, so just incase I'll add some.

She has perked up a touch but i'm worried. It's feed time now so I will try her again.!! I hope she is ok, I adore her!!

No, no, I didn't get yet a new one. Am talking about female betta #3, the metallic-coloured one.

So I was cupping my hand in the water, to see what she would do, and what she does is curl up inside my hand, then rubs against me, then swims out and back in the other way, and curls up again for a bit, then out and back in.

Aaaaaaw. A-do-ra-ble! It really feels like a kind of cuddle.

Honestly, I have very limited experience with males (only one), but so far I've had a way closer relationship with my little females. Could be the luck of the draw, rather than reflecting any broader trend, but that's what I've noticed on my small scale fish-keeping.

The little sweetheart, it sounds like she is going to be a real little lover and you are lucky she is such a fine little lady.

They are so cute when they decide they love to cuddle and that is actually what she was doing.

he he he. No, I've got this stupid policy about not naming my fish so as not to be too heart-broken if anything happens, and also as a supersticious way of 'preventing' anything from happening. But life's getting confusing in that crazy fish-house of mine.

So did you name her "Cuddles"?;D

Do you think? I tend to be overly scientific about animal behaviour, and I am already immensely flattered that thanks to my treatment of her, she's not startled by a human hand.

In my overly rational mind, I thought perhaps she was looking for heat (don't worry, her tank's a good temp), or that she feels more secure in small spaces (she definitely loves her house, way more than the tank's previous occupant). Either way, it's extremely touching, and secretly, I hope you're right.

The little sweetheart, it sounds like she is going to be a real little lover and you are lucky she is such a fine little lady.

They are so cute when they decide they love to cuddle and that is actually what she was doing.
