I lost 3 albino cories in the last couple weeks.

100g tank
- 1 x DG
- 5 x glofish danios
- 3 x bronze cories
- 5 x albino cories (now 2)

I recently went on vacation for 10 days and returned 4 days ago. I lost 2 of the cories during the vacation and 1 yesterday (at least I think I did, I could only find 2 today). I did a huge water change right before the vacation and another big one when I got back. I had my dad feed them once a day while I was away from a weekly pill organizer thing, so I know they weren't over/underfed.

Water parameters are:
- 0 ammonia
- 0 nitrites
- 0 nitrates (I'm cycled, my tank is so understocked that the algae doesn't allow it to rise to detectable levels)
- stable 8.2 pH

The cories were in the tank for about 6-8 weeks. About a week before I went away, I treated the tank prophylactically with PraziPro. I concluded that the first two died due to that. There is no evidence of illness in the remaining cories or any of the other fish. I'm really bummed about losing them as they were my favorite fish. Just seeing if anyone has some insight into what is going on.

Hard to say. Maybe the cories were stressed from losing their pals and since their schools dwindled.

Is there a chance the filter or heater failed for a period of time?

I'm sure there are other possibilities but I'm not thinking of any at the moment.

Sorry for your loss

- To my knowledge, the filters were on the whole time (Fluval 405 + Aqua-Tech 30-60 HOB). I have a second HOB that I plan to start using when I get closer to full stock.
- I also had two large airstones running just in case the filters failed when I was away.
- I have 3 x 250w heaters, all Aqueon Pros, and all are working fine currently.

What food did they get ?

Primarily a mix of flakes and sinkings pellets with occasional brine shrimp or blood worms, though the DG and danios usually make quick work of everything but the pellets.

Very strange. Don't really know what could have caused this.

Maybe BriLandy is right they lost their friends and was sad. I also feed mine algae wafers. That may help, other than that not sure why some died off.

Do you usually feed them once daily or was that because you were on vacation?

Usually twice a day. I'm starting to think it's some delayed effect from bad stock. I had 43 other fish, 3 frogs, and 1 snail make it through the vacation just fine. Unfortunately my other mystery snail crawled out of the tank over the vacation and was found desiccated on the floor.

Good news everyone! My death count is back down to two. One of the cories did some great hiding yesterday, but he's now back in the limelight. So I guess I'm back to my initial hypothesis that the two dead cories couldn't weather the PraziPro treatment.

Glad to hear you got one back! This one is a real mystery but it sounds like that may be the cause.

Bad news everyone! After coming out of hiding for a couple days, he went back into hiding. I was then able to find him behind one of the decorations. I watched for 15 minutes and he didn't move once. I then stuck my arm in and poked him and he swam away. The next day I couldn't find him again and then today I found him floating at the top. I'm sick of postulating about why the three cories died, so I'm just going to say it was a delayed effect from bad stock and replace them with my next quarantine load.
