I have to stop looking on kijiji

So every day usually I check kijijI (canadian version of craigslist for you americans) for good deals on tanks, which is a really bad idea, because I keep seeing tanks that I really want to just impulse buy. Like $200 for a 55 gal full set up with a canister filter?? If I had bought every tank I saw and wanted there, I would have at least 8 of them cycling in my bedroom right now (though I don't think they could all even possibly fit, let alone have enough room to put, you know, a bed in there...). I just want a nice 55 gallon set up, but ohmygoshthat46galloncornerisjustperfectforsavingspace, and oohIknowaperfectplacetoputthat82gallontalltank...oh dear.

I know I should wait to get a second tank until October because I don't know if I'll have time to maintain 2 tanks with school going on, but I think looking forward to water changes is as good of a sign that I'm ready as any. Like just now I thought "Hey, I'm bored, I should do a water change! Oh wait, I did one yesterday..." (I think I'll do one anyway, your tank water can never be too clean). Well, my birthday is coming up soon, so perhaps I can use that as an excuse to buy myself a nice tank. Or two...or three...

I think I might be showing the first symptoms of a serious case of MTS...

I can tell lol I don't really trust those type of websites because of scams.

Like what kind of scam?

I pretty much have to buy used since I can't afford a canister if I get new

KijijI is Canadian?! I am an Canadian who loves Craiglist, and never even thought of trying KijijI

and the only thing that I hate! about MTS is the one and only fact that getting another tank is SUPER $$$ it is not just the 200 for the tank. it is everything that goes into it. I thought that I got an awesome deal. EVERYTHING I would ever need in a 90 gallon, for 350. and it was... but then I up graded the substrate, and lights, added CO2, added livestock, added more plants, etc. and now I looked at the how much I spent. I am over 1000 into it. All along trying to be thrifty. now I am looking for another "good deal" on another 90 and making a fish bridge between them. (less work on water changes! (I think)

LOL! I do the same thing when I am bored, water change. sometimes (rarely but has happen) up to 4 times a week.

Yes I find kijijI has 10x more listings than craigslist in Canada, I've checked both.

And I keep trying to calculate the total cost after I've added all my own stuff, but I always forget something. Namely, livestock. I keep forgetting fish cost money too, and only budget for plants and stuff...no idea why

I love kijiji. bought my 55 gallon (with everything but fish) for 100$. as well as my dirt bike for 350$.

I agree Quill- lots more on kijijI than on craigslist. maybe because more people in canada use a purely canadian site than a mix?

@JoshM there are lots of scams, but if you play your cards right, only pay with cash, always look over what ever you buy carefully, and always pick up personally (no shipping what so ever) you will never get scammed.

Wow, I feel even more lucky, heh...

I got my 90g complete with everything, including livestock, for $75 with it's stand and all DD

I spent less on it that my ex spent on her 15 that she got from the store (score one for the cheap ol' country boy I guess haha)

NO! ITS NOT FAIR!

How dare you do this to me kijiji...

90 gallon tank, stand, hood, light, canister filter, heater, sand, and decor... $100

I must resist the temptation! I don't even have somewhere to put this beauty right now..

I can just imaging how the conversation would go if I asked my mom if I could buy it though.

Me: Hey mom can I buy a 90 gallon tank? It's a good deal!
Her: Uhh... where do you expect to put that thing?
Me: Oh I dunno, I'll think of a place for it... probably... one day...

I'd put it in my room (that way she couldn't complain) but I learned the hard way I can't sleep with filter noise..

If its a canister filter it will be super quiet. the only noise wold be if you placed the outtake above the water line.

NO NO WHY DO I KEEP LOOKING

65 gallon tank, stand, filter, heater, live plants, rocks, plant grade light, $75

And this time I actually do have somewhere to put it, since I found an unused space in the family room that's 3' wide!! And for an extra $20 you can get a 25 gallon tank that fits under the stand... Aaand it was originally listed for over $300 but they dropped the price!

I'M SORRY I CAN'T RESIST THIS TIME...

It's perfect, its so cheap, it looks like I'm going to have to give in to MTS...

Fortunately my birthday is in a week so I can just announce "Hey family I'm buying myself a tank for my birthday!" and they can't complain. Can they?

I'm still working on setting up my first tank, so I'm not in the market for another, but I've never been a giant fan of sites like that. I've sold some things on Craigslist and gotten some creepy buyers that I was really scared were going to do harm to me. I've also tried to buy things only to realize at the last minute that there is a major problem with the item they didn't disclose. I'd really prefer to buy new or from someone I know.

I hope you have better luck than me!

Some people don't like buying used, and I'd prefer not to either, but a set-up like that would cost over $500 new. It's really the only way to get a tank (or a few!) if you're short on cash. I already emailed the seller with a few questions and she seems nice

I paid 300 for my full set up 125 gallon on craigslist. I think I have close to 1000 in it now. I love craigslist!!

Same here. All 3 of my tanks are CL. And there is a perfect 90g with stand, hood, decore, etc for 199 I desperately want and need for my fish currently in my 55. But alas I have to wait ((. I've got to keep telling myself that there will be more tank deals and other fish later lol!
