I have TMJ

Just about few months ago I've starting to realize when I open my mouth when I eat, yawn, or talk, my jaw makes

this unique clicking sound, sounds like they're poping. At first I thought I was just having a sored jaw from chewing

too much, but months later it never went away, then I got worried so I went to the dentist, that's when I found out

that I have TMJ, its like a disorder that usually caused by intense amount of stress and shoulder/neck muscle

tension, it sucks, my jaws are constanly sored, I was able to chew harder food as easy as I was able to, at times

my jaws will "lock" and I wasn't able to close my mouth, at times it cause me headaces, from what the doctor told

me, there is nothing you can do to cure TMJ, you're going to have it for the rest of your life; the young me was kind

of upset to hear the true, so I went on the internet and did some research about TMJ, I found this site that sells a

series of muscle exercises, that can permanently remove your TMJ in about two weeks by spending 3 minutes of

your day, now I don't know if I should get it, I was wondering if any of you guys have any experience like mine, and

the outcome of the treatment if so, thank you. ???

I have heard of TMJ, but don't know about the exercises you are talking about. Seems a Dr. might be able to help where a Dentist wouldn't. If it is stress related, even a chiropractor could know what to do, you could try the exercises, but maybe one of the above would have a better idea.

I think i've heard of this jaw exercise; it may work; i've heard somewhere that it works like YOGA does. but u should talk to the doctor first and then start doing the exercise under the direction of an expert.

wow, it actually has a name ! my dad has this, and kindly passed this trait to me and my sisters (who are half sisters, so its def dad that gave us this trait, and not our mums!). my dad is in his 50's and its not done him any harm. he still eats well!! it just makes toffee's etc much harder work! chew slowly and it doesn't click out so often is my only advice. I really don't see how there can be a cure, so don't go parting with your cash for any promises of a cure! I have a clicking collar bone too (that's from my mum and maternal grandfather and clicking knees too (again, from mum and maternal grandfather), so I feel like an old lady clicking away with my dodgy joints and i'm only 29! my hips have started clicking too, so there's no hope for me really!! just as well I didnt want to enter the olympics!!

well i'm only 19, and I just feel kind of depress because i'm having an uncure "sickness" at a such young age, i've always taken good care of my body, I guess it was passed down by my father =/ the excercise on the internet its $40, and if it doesn't take effect in 2 months its money back garantee without question, I mean.. should I take a shot? or I'll just find it free on youtube..

My mother had TMJ and her dentist gave her this type of mouth guard to wear at night while she was sleeping. It helped her somewhat, because I think she used to grind her teeth at night. But she never got great results from it.

My best friend has TMJ, also. She was seeing a chiropractor for a back problem, and one of the side effects of seeing him was her TMJ cleared up dramatically.

I don't know that either of them were doing any exercises specifically for TMJ, tho, sorry. If there is a money back guarantee then you might give it a shot. But maybe you could visit a chiropractor first and see what he/she has to say?

yea.. not an option for us.. walk-in clinic and generic meds are more than we can afford as it is.. not rich enough for chiropractors and such.. that's like buying a 10,000gallon tank. :

You could call around and find out. Maybe there is a place that has a free consultation or something like that so you could get some information at least...

I see a chiropractor. With my insurance, it's only $15 per appointment. (During marching band, I go a lot! haha) So I would see what your insurance says.

I would definitely speak to a doctor before I bought those. $40 is a lot for something that sounds like "7-minute abs"!!

yeah I don't think I have insurance either, anyways...seeing a doctor would probably be a good idea, I hadn't heard any positive outcome from people going to see the doctor, they would just recommand you to see a TMJ specialist, I don't know.... I really don't want to live with the clicking sound caused by my jaw for the rest of my life, it sucks!

We don't have insurance, and when my husband goes to the chiropractor, it only costs $35. per visit. The first office call may be more, but at least you could ask if they treat TMJ before you even went to the DR.

I don't think most doctors tend to be real interested if you aren't going to be a good chunk of change in their pocket.. I mean, come on, do we really expect them to suffer by driving last year's Mercedes? :'(

That bites. My wife has TMJ. It often tags along behind another condition she has, Fibromyalgia.
I wouldn't buy anything that claims to be able to cure TMJ. My wife has seen a specialist, and was told that there were some things that could treat TMJ, but nothing could cure it.
Dentist vs doctor in this case isn't a huge difference. Dentists are doctors that have specialized in the mouth. In fact, my wife was told to either see her dentist or a specialist, depending on which would be easier, cheaper, and more comfortable.
Someone here has suggested yoga, that's a good idea. Something that strengthens and stretches your body without undue stress is good. If you go to a chiropracter, pick one that has an "MD" after his/her name. There is little regulation of chiropracters. I used to work for an orthopedic clinic, and have received some of the most horrifying calls, like the guy who had a broken leg that he had been seeing a chiropracter for. The chiropracter had been manipulating the leg for two weeks and just couldn't understand why it wasn't healing. He never thought to have the guy get an x-ray.

As have I, and I've also seen non-MD chiropracters who were very good, but the ratio of intelligent, diligent doctors vs intelligent, diligent chiros is pretty high, since the schooling to become a doctor weeds out a lot of dumb, lazy people. It's not a guarantee, but it helps stack the deck in your favor to see a chiro with a medical doctorate.

I reckon chiropractor may be worth a shot. they tend to be able to fix many things conventional medicine cant. let us know how you get on!

yeah most people said there is treatment for TMJ but not cure, which I believe its true. but then again, looking at that website who claims the excercise will cure your TMJ garantee is pretty eye catching, its money back garantee without questioning...lol..should I give it a shot?

i'm usually the most skeptical about things, but I think if you get some good info on what exactly it is and if it really sounds like it's worth it and not one of the many scams out there, i'd go for it.. worth a shot.

its ironic, I was at work talking to this girl, and she have TMJ as well, I told her about the product, she is going to check it out, shes concerning about buying it, and she'll let me know the outcome.

I have TMJ, too! It got really bad one summer when I was working at the university I attended and giving up to 4 hour-long campus tours per day. My doctor (MD-type) told me to 1. try to talk less (talking continuously for an hour aggravated it, so I tried to cut down on the number of tours I gave) 2. Ice the joint (it would get inflamed and icing would ease the pain) 3. Take Ibuprofen to reduce the swelling. Did it ever go away? No, it's still here when I yawn really widely or eat something huge. But it's something I can handle & live with (and just take smaller bites!). *grin* Try the exercise posted on the tmj-no-more website (the example one) and see how it works. I am very skeptical of paying for a list of exercises! But try the ice & ibuprofen for the pain. It will help.

As for your girlfriend...I know it bothers you. But does it bother her??!! I'm sure she's FAR more interested in making out with you than the funny clicks in your jaw!
