HI All,

I have live plants in one of my tanks but don't know the process for trimming etc.

The plants I have are as follows:

- Crypts
- Vals
- Ambulia
- Java Moss (How can I separate into two clumps? Just rip it?)

Any advice appreciated

Thanks

Crypts and vals are rosette plants, you may need to divide them or clean them up by removing dead or damaged leaves but you won't need to trim.

Ambulia is a stem plant so ideally you'll want to trim the stem to just above aa leaf. However given the short distance between each set of leaves just trim it as neatly as you can no more than a third of the way down the stem unless you have a reason to prune hard.

Java moss will regrow from pieces so yes, just rip it. But gently!

Awesome ! Thanks for the info ! So I would just be snipping off the dead leaves on the vals and crypts? I can't wait to spread the java moss love across the tank haha

Exactly. Each clump of val or crypt only has one central growing point so you don't want to injure that. They can produce new "baby" plants on the side though and when that happens you can carefully separate the daughter plants if you want to plant them elsewhere.
