i have ich

I was gone during the weekend and when I came back 3 neons had died from ich (they were just fine before I left). My tank is 10 gallons and has been going for about two weeks, and with 2 guppies and six tetras now only 3 remain. My neons are the only ones showing signs of ich, so maybe my water change on tuesday stressed them out? So what can I do to help them? Also I have raised the temp up slowly as sugested but what eles? any thing helps

I hate to point this out but 10 gallon is too small for neons, they really need a 20 gallon long. Also, did you cycle the tank? Quarantine your fish if you can although it's probably too late. There are some medicines that you can get although I don't know how effective they'll be.

I hope this helps,

I also recommend the heat method in the link provided above. But do not use meds and the heat method at the same time. You want to do one or the other.

What are the exact water parameters of your tank - pH, temp, ammonia, nitrite, nitrates? Being in an appropriate tank size with less than ideal water parameters can cause stress in fish. After your neons get better, I would rehome them.

Thanks, might get that medicine. I hope my tetras surviveas well. What about aquarium salt does that help or are my fish not well suited for it?

The heat method doesn't include the use of any meds.

There's no salt needed when treating ich or for freshwater tanks in general.

QT a fish with ich is not necessary. Ich infects the tank, not just the fish.
Also I would try the heat for two weeks with frequent water changes before resulting to meds.
Agreed, the neons need a bigger tank (at least 20 gallon long)

Will the guppies be ok at 86 degrees I have read that is too hot for them

That temp is just temporary so they should be fine, including your neons.

I am several days into a heat treatment for ICH as well. I feel your pain. I am doing the heat treatment alone. I am trying to do more than normal vacuuming to help get rid of the spores or whatever they are that fall off the fish. Also did an early 59% water change today to decrease the free swimming ICH.

Sorry to hear that. Neon tetras are quite fragile however so it's not necessarily a surprise. How are your other fish?
