I have discus eggs!!!!!

I was wondering why my two largest discus (my blue turquoise and pigeon blood) had been spending a lot of time pecking at some plants in the corner. That behavior only lasted a couple days, but they didn't seem to want to move from the spot. Last night I looked in the tank and they are guarding a batch of eggs! They are not opaque, they are semI transparent, so as far as I know that means they are fertile. There are about 50 eggs that they layed on a leaf. I have no clue what do do with the fry if they hatch. I do know that discus raise their own young and that they feed off of the milky secretion from their parent's skin. I just hope that my angels don't bother them. The discus are a lot bigger than the angels though, so maybe they will be able to protect their fry. We'll see

Grrrrrr. They ate them It would have been cool though. Maybe its just a learning process for them since this is their first batch. Hopefully we'll have better luck next time

Discus and Angels both have a severe learning curve as far as spawning is concerned. In time they will get it right.

Yeah, my angel pair is going through the same thing right now. Hopefully they will eventually figure it out I still get excited every time I see eggs though.

Thanks. They are not the same kind of discus (which I know would be ideal for breeding purposes). I believe the female is a blue turquoise and the male is a pigeon blood. Since the pigeon blood genes are dominant I think that if they do eventually have success hatching their eggs, the fry will be 100% pigeon blood. That's my guess, I'm not sure though.

I hope you guys have luck with your angels. Mine haven't figured it out yet either

Me too My Blues are laying as we speak- I am so excited! This is their third try, the first two didn't make it to wigglers. When I was watching the male didn't seem to be covering all the eggs, so many of these may fungus. Keep your fingers crossed !!!
