I wouldn't put her in a breeding box given the size of the tank already. Do you know what type of pleco you have? Some can get up to 11 inches. They're usually recommended for tanks 29 gallons minimum. Do you have a plan for the fry afterwards?I know I'm getting a 10 gallon soon basically around the time they are big enough do you know when I should put her in the breeder box she is 23 days in pregnancy her gravid is mostly red outlined in black has been sleeping on heater and just today has been swimming still by the filter and bubbles on the surface
Female bristlenose plecos can also have whiskersPossibly a bushnose pleco? They can get pretty big. Mine are babies still. If yours has bristles then it's a male!
This is my little babyView attachment 474146
IMO means in my opinion. Although you’ll find what I said isn’t just my opinion, but many other FishLore users as well. What is IMO?
A 10 gallon is still too small for a pleco in my opinionHe is a small pleco and I'm upgrading to a 10 gallon soon so I think he'll be ok for now
I will admit,Female bristlenose plecos can also have whiskers
I agree with you, it is way more likely it is a male, but I always consider even the tiny possibilities.I will admit,
I was told it is possible, but that they are either very very tiny bristles, or they won't have them at all. Considering no one could post pictures of their females with bristles, I do believe it's more likely that they have a male if it's small enough for a three gallon yet has bristles.
A pleco wouldn't be able to fit in a ten gallon anyway. But you may be able to put more fish in with a guppy if you upgrade to a ten gallon.this is the closest looking one I could find on google its like that but with whiskers
Eventually you'll have too many fry for a ten gallon. Female guppies can release 20-40 fry a month. If you post a picture of the guppy then we might be able to estimate how much time until she gives birth.yes theyll grow and when theyre big enough theyll go in the ten gallon
This is going to sound kind of dumb, but are you sure she is female? I have seen threads here before where people think their guppy is pregnant when they are actually a bloated male. Does the guppy have a pointed or triangle shaped bottom analfin?okay she is on day 23 she is the only fish in the tank other than pleco shes also about 4 months maybe 3 months old
Yup that's a female. Its a female she has a gravid spot Ive had males she doesn't have there fins trust me
Most livebearers act distant and more fearful a couple days before they give birth. I really wouldn't put her in a breeder box, it adds lots of stress to the fish and there will be lots of fry anyways.yeee so when should I put her in breeder box shes been staying right there in front of the filter except for when I come close she stands still are those contractions?
sooo what should I do then theyre gonna die if I let her be because of the filter and herselfMost livebearers act distant and more fearful a couple days before they give birth. I really wouldn't put her in a breeder box, it adds lots of stress to the fish and there will be lots of fry anyways.
You can use the breeder box if you really want to, if the filter is strong you could cover the intake with a thin piece of sponge too. To avoid the mother from eating the fry, you can provide lots of hiding spots from decor and live/fake plants. However, just to warn you, they do make lots of fry. In a three gallon you won't have lots of space for fry. In a ten gallon, they will grow up and continue the cycle. That's why I prefer to breed livebearers the natural way: survival of the fittest. It may sound harsh, but it's difficult to keep up with the amount of fry that livebearers produce.sooo what should I do then theyre gonna die if I let her be because of the filter and herself
I know I'm not using a breeder box when I get the 10 ill do natural way after these guys does age affect the number of fry she had mated with the male when she was 3 months-4 months oldYou can use the breeder box if you really want to, if the filter is strong you could cover the intake with a thin piece of sponge too. ok hes not that big I'm gettign a 10gal soonAny type of pleco should NOT get stuck in a 3 gal. Either upgrade or return for some stroke credit. Guppy maybe just 1-2. That being said, you can easily turn this tank into a snail tank, which I think 3 gal is more or less acceptable. And then upgrade your guppy and pleco to a 10+ or even better 20+ gallon (if he’s a bn pleco)
I have a Q will the pleco try yo eat the babies? or just momAny type of pleco should NOT get stuck in a 3 gal. Either upgrade or return for some stroke credit. Guppy maybe just 1-2. What they're trying to say is that even a ten gallon won't be big enough long term.ok hes not that big I'm gettign a 10gal soon
I'm not too familiar with poly filter but you can use anything that's fish-safe that can cover the filter without blocking it too much. Just make sure it's somewhat porous. You put it around the intake.also My filter isn't that strong I have poly filter which is like a spongey texture should I put that around the sucking part will the filter still grab through?
I'm going to get a 20 then maybe in a year Ill get a 55 or somethingWhat they're trying to say is that even a ten gallon won't be big enough long term.

If water travels through it well then it should work.porous? look poly filter up its pretty much a sponge
This is going to be stupid but If I had more questions I wanted to make a new thread how would I do that? I can respond to others just can't make oneIf water travels through it well then it should work.
So at the top, you see the thing that goes "Aquarium Forum->General->Welcome to Fishlore" ? Click on the Aquarium Forum and you can go to the specific forums. I recommend "Freshwater Beginners" You just click "Post a Thread".This is going to be stupid but If I had more questions I wanted to make a new thread how would I do that?
