I Got Some Great News Yesterday.

I had an appointment with my Radiation Oncologist yesterday, he was treating me for metastatic squamous cell carcinoma. It had originally started on my lower lip, and went to the nymph nodes on the right side of my neck and then they had found another tumor at the bottom of the esophagus before I was suppose to start radiation and chemo on my neck. Well that ended up being done on the esophagus instead. The doctor came into to see me a few minutes late and basically told me I was a miracle, he had been late to see going over my pet scan pictures. He was expecting to see further spreading to other organs. Instead he actually saw nothing at all. No active cancer cells at the time. I did 6 weeks of radiation and chemo driving myself there every day and for the most part continued to do my daily routine around the house.

Seriously outstanding! I was diagnosed with stage1 prostate cancer back in 2011. Just had surgery to remove the prostate. I've been cancer free ever since. My mother, however, wasn't so lucky. After beating cancer 4 times ( both breasts, throat & lung) she was complaining about losing her balance. My sister would take her to all her appointments, and at one appointment while leaving the hospital she lost her balance and fell hitting her head. They rushed her in, did a cat-scan and found one large tumor on the left side of her brain and several others on the right side. She lost her ability to walk and use her right arm. She decided against surgery and chemo. Docs gave her 6 months. She lasted 2 1/2 months in a hospice. She passed away July 31st 2018 at the age of 82.

Stay strong!

Fabulous news!! Congratulations!!

My mother is a survivor of stage IV pancreatic cancer (had metastasized to liver) and thyroid cancer. She had a similar experience with her liver... docs hemmed and hawed and apologized that they couldn't explain what had happened to the lesion. Haven't seen it again in 5 years!

Sorry about that Brother, mine was diagnosed as a stage 3 on the esophagus and stage 4 in the neck. One of the reasons it ended up getting to be that bad was because for almost 12 months I took care of my deceased girlfriend after she had a knee replacement done, and 5 months after that suffered a stroke. She passed away 9 months after the stroke. I took care of her everyday that she wasn't hospitalized, ignoring my own problems. Nubias the doctor also said I was one of the toughest people he ever encountered, I wasn't going to let this get me down and give up. The way I figured it, I walked into treatment everyday on my own. To see the poor individual that could barely sit up in a wheelchair, I was doing good and had no complaints. I still can't eat a regular meal right now, but that maybe scar tissue the doctors have to deal with. Thank You everyone, it is truly a new start on life.

So sorry for the loss of your girlfriend.

Thanks Dawn, there was nothing I could have done to actually save her. It was more making her days more comfortable. I ended up finding out way to late in her life that she had vastly decreased cardiac output. I have a lot of years of medical training, most of it about how to patch up marines in the field, diagnose dive related injuries, and do basic sick call for common problems. Her issues with her heart I had never been told about how bad it was.

Thank You Dawn Michele life is too short and hard sometimes. I know of 3 times I should have already been dead, twice while on active duty and once working at the Shell Oil Training facility. And now I dodged this bullet too, one thing I knew when I was diagnosed at the beginning of the year was I wasn't down and out of the fight. I try to treat everyone as would like to be treated, whether I'm in charge of them or not. One of the doctors appointments I had with the radiation doctor during treatment basically kinda went this way. He wanted to know why I was so cheerful, I told him I get done with radiation go home take a nap get up and have a beer and cook dinner. His nurse had a look like you drinking, me I figured there was nothing to loose at that point. I wasn't really given a promising outlook. This whole cancer thing really has made the dating game a challenge too.
