I Got A Pea Puffer!!!!

So as some of you may know, I have been thinking about getting a dwarf puffer for sometime. I don't usually see them locally. One time I saw a rather large one (maybe it wasn't a dwarf as it was pretty big now I think back on it) at my Petco. I always regretted passing that one up but I didn't have tank or enough knowledge at that point. I've inquired about them at stores in Milwaukee but never made the drive or plunge. Well today I was at LFS and they had them and I just happen to have an empty tank. So I brought a little guy home, well maybe a girl not really sure. I will post pics whenever I can wrestle my phone from my daughter. I got some frozen blood worms and brine shrimp to try. I'm not a huge snail fan but I hear they really like to eat them. I hope the little puffer does good in my care, a few in the tank were dead already. I suspect the bigger ones might have been attacking the smaller. The tank barely had any plants and there were many together. Some were very tiny and others were substantially larger. I bought one of the larger ones. Any tips or general info anyone wants to share would be great. I've only really ever had any luck with Bettas so I'm a little nervous and want to learn as much as possible about Pea Puffers!

I'm sorry to hear that, I know it seems to be hit or miss with them...I just got one because I didn't want to deal with sexing them and aggression. What happened with yours?

Your tank was not cycled either right?? I know that is very important with these little guys, they are incredibly sensitive to water parameters so keep his tank ammonia free

I have heard they are sensitive so I will watch the water closely. I use established media, prime, and stability.to cycle tanks. Have the API test kit as well. I am doing good lately with the brood of bettas but...I haven't had a lot of luck in the past with other fish. I tried some gourami and they didn't make it long at all. I suspect it was some sort of illness. I hope this little puffer is healthy. I think I don't have community fish because the spreading of illness is just something I'd rather not deal with on the flip side of this I have a lot of individual tanks and a lot of water changes!

My suggestion is Prazipro and live plants for pea puffers! Good luck
