so recently I have been having a lot of bad luck with bettas but after a bit of research it seems like mostly genetic issues. since then I have decided to ONLY get plakats and wild types and from my supplier they are a Lot healthier.

I will upload some pictures soon, but after waiting for a few months I finally found one that I like! he is a black halfmoon plakat male I decided to name him Peeta to keep my hunger games theme going lol (my wild type male is finick) and I will order in a halfmoon plakat female (Annie) and a wild type female (Katniss) so I can finally start breeding heathy bettas!

but so far he is doing quite well! and is currently in a 3 gallon live planted QT tank.

I recently set up a 10 gallon for a betta. I haven't gotten a betta yet though. I'm looking to get one either later this week or early next week. I've had bettas in the past. My most recent one passed away around a year and a half ago. He was a veiltail that I raised from a baby. He lived around 3 years. I'm definitely going to buy a betta splendens, but do you recommend a plakat because of the other ones tend to have genetic issues?

yes at least where I get mine they are really just not as heathy. I think if you order from a extremely good breeder you will be fine with a betta splendens but most of the time they are super expensive and not really worth it at that price. my wild type is incredible though he got ick and fought it of himself after a day!

but of course so many people get perfectly heathy ones as well so I guess you just have a better chance with a plakat.

good luck on your new betta though!

he really enjoyed his first frozen bloodworms with me! was scared of them at first but after a while he kept looking up for more lol.
the blue in his tail has also been darkening! not sure if his tail was slightly clamped before or he is just darkening up already.

Hi sorry I’m not sure entirely how the page works I can’t tell if you’re asking the author of the post or me? But I got my guy from Petco. He honestly was the best looking one. A few I saw with lumps and bumps but he looked good and I just kept him in clean water and such until I felt he was ready to go into the tank. He was listed as a king betta.

if you are asking me mine is from I got him from the little fish company. their plakats seem heathy but I wouldn't get a betta splendes from them. I don't know if you can order directly from them though. he was bought in by me lps and that is there main fish supplier.

Yay! I cant wait until you show some pictures :)

I HATE seeing the bettas in petco/petsmart/petland/etc... a responsible breeder is best. They are trying to sell these "glo fish bettas" at the pet stores here and I want to buy them all up because they're all dying, nobody wants them, but I cant take them on and if I buy them they will only be replaced... I hate it so much. Filthy cup, infected gills, black swollen popeye... the UK recently chose to define lobsters and some kind of fish as "sentient beings", but its about time we started demanding better treatment and methods of breeding. Im excited and happy for you!
