I Got A Albino Bristlenose!

Hi, I finally got a juvenile albino bristlenose! He is only an inch long. He is getting acclimated by putting a cup of water in the bag every ten minutes in his new home. A 37 gallon tall tank. There is no other fish. Tank is cycled.Checked water again before I bought him and everything looked good. Questions....do I feed him wafers, do I break one up? I have a common pleco in my 75 gallon so I have veggie wafers and shrimp wafers. Also any advice on keeping him healthy would be greatly appreciated. He is so tiny!

He would greatly benefit from a piece of driftwood in the tank

What, no pictures?
Congratulations on your new guy. I really want a bristlenose but don’t have a tank big enough yet; I gather from those who do have them, that they appreciate a blanched cucumber or zucchinI piece (probably many other vegetables as well, but those two are frequently mentioned). My LFS recently had their bristlenoses breed and has the youngsters sharing a tank with shrimp, which they are about the same size as.

I have Driftwood in tank. He is already on it and hiding in the hole that's on it. A few minutes ago he was cleaning the back of the tank. I have a sponge filter along with a HOB. Should I be worried about the tube. HI'm going in there? Also should I feed him tonight or wait until tomorrow. Thanks. Sorry for the crappy picture. Will try later.

Cool! I recently got one too. Mine didn’t eat for the first few days, but he eventually learned that the zucchinI is food. I feed algae wafers, zucchini, cucumbers and shrimp pellets. He munches on all of them.

I added zucchinI the first day I got him, just in case he was hungry, but he didn’t take a bite. I cut a small around 2” piece, then cut that in half. I just keep switching it out every 2 days, and eventually saw him eat it. Here’s a picture of mine.

His tails nipped from the pet store, but should heal up nicely after a while.

I'd be worried about the tube, some fish like cramming themselves into any hole they can find. I lost one of my yoyo loaches during a water change because of that. I've had my own albino bristlenose get stuck in the basket thing that went over the end of a big canister filter when the pipes were removed. Mine eat algae wafers, protien pellets, and tetra colour tropical crumbles. They are nocturnal so I feed mine when I turn off the tank lights for the night.

Agreed on the zucchinI advice. Technically, you don't even have to blanched it as that removes a lot of nutrients. You can use a seaweed clip, a skewer, fork, anything to keep it on the bottom, not floating. My bristlenoses also love all colors of bell pepper. Don't think I saw anyone mention that. Pumpkin and brussel sprouts are other big ones I hear about. Good luck with him! Oh, and rest assured, they can be very difficult to photograph.

I love Bristlenose Catfish and recently got myself a couple of Albino dry too.

Currently feeding algae wafers as their main food. They also hoover up any flake food that reaches the floor too!

I got an albino bn yesterday. It’s also 1 inch. It hasn’t eaten anything I gave it yet but it’s eating algae and driftwood a lot. I’m trying to feed it veggie rounds, shrimp pellets, carnivore wafers, blanched vegetables, and gel food. It’s the one in my profile picture
