Yes, I found him. He is almost the spitting of him. The purple might be a slightly darker shade, but he's very close to what he looked like. I might buy him from this person. I found him off of Aquabid. I'm really leary about buying form the pet store again. I'm just very afraid that I'm going to get another sick and not know it until it's almost too late again.I have to email this persom and ask them some questions before I think about buying him. Here is a pic of him.



What do you think? He even has the yellow head that Royell had. He's only 3.5 mo. old. You can see he still has a long way to go for his finnage development. Natalie

Thanks Guy's. I'm excited. I just wanted to ask him about shipping on certain days. Some of those people only ship on certain days and I wasn't sure if this person did or not. I'm hoping that they are flexible because I won't be home duing the week days to receive him and I would rather receive him on a Saturday guaranteeing I will be there to get him. Natalie

Shipping would depend on where you live. Since he is in LA. You would have to live on the west coast to receive it on the 2nd day. If your on the east coast it can take 3 days or more.

I sent a package to oregon and it took 4-5 days priority.

Did you ask if the fish has a live arrival guarantee?

Edited to add: You should also ask how much would Fedex overnight, USPS express or DHl would cost to ship it.

I live him Phoenix Az, so we are practically neighbors. He is shipping USPS priority. No, I didn't ask that earlier, but as soon as I read that I did go back and ask him. The cost for the USPS priority is 14.00. Natalie

At that distance he will probably ship in one day. I get fish from Florida to Nebraska in 2 days with Priority shipping and I believe that if they advertise on Aquabid and eBay they have to have a Live Guarantee or they cannot advertise there. It may only be for a few hours though and in an unopened bag.

But I will say that fish shipped directly from the breeder are so much healthier than those shipped to a store and put in those cups and allowed to get sick. The breeders treat them well and they are given almost the cleanest and most nicest environment of any fish I have seen. I have pictures of the average breeders equipment that shows the place and it is marvelous. They are so well cared fosr and each of them has their own tank and it looks to be at least 2 to 3 gallons and constantly filtered. The environment is light and totally clean.

Wanna know what's More disgusting? Betta's in those cups while the pet stores air conditioning is on. If I won the lottery I would buy out petsmart and petco and give those fish the tanks they deserve to be in!

The fish that are on aquabid/ebay probobly live in nice tanks and 80F temps.

Well we have a neighbor, but I don't completly trust him. He's a very strange man and he scares me at times. We do say hI to one another when we see each other, but I just don't think he's completely trust worthy. I do have someone below us that could probably accept him,but again, I don't want the fish to stay in the bag for more then a couple hours and chances are he would probably be delivered early in the morning sometime especially if it is priority mail. I would feel much better if I could get him on a weekend. Thanks for the congrats. I haven't bought him yet. I have to check my email to see if they responded to my questiond yet. As of yesterday they haven't. There is only 2 hours and 15 min left on it. Natalie

Ok, well it's a good thing I checked on the Aquabid to see where it was at. I had much less time that I had thought. It said it ended at 12:30, but I guess that must've been there time because when I checked there was only 10 minutes left yikes. I of course was having trouble with email through yahoo. Stupid Yahoo sometimes. So, in any case I bought him. The person said that UPS and Fedex doesn't deliver on Saturdays which isn't true because I've received plenty of packages from them on Saturdays. At least from UPS. He can't guarantee an exact time for delivery through USPS which that I know. As long as I can get him overnight on Saturday that doesn't matter.

He does have live gurantee.

I was just looking at him(RJ) again and Ican't get over how much he looks like Royell. It makes me wonder if it's the breeder that Petsmart deals with only because he's the spitting of him. I swear they are like twins. I'm so excited. Yay!! ;D Natalie

My husband knew how to do it through paypal w/o setting up the acct. , so it's offiicially paid for and he is mine. Woohoo! I just disinfected the 5 gallon, since my Otto cat's are no longer either. I'm letting that sit for 24 hours and I'll rince it out tomorrow night and I'll get some new Otto cats probably this week before RJ get's here. They'll be in the 5 gallon and RJ will be in the 3 gallon for awhile. Natalie

Thanks Rose and Cherryrose. Heis actaully coming from Louisiana. I don't know why I was thinking California. In any case She sent him out today and Iwill be receiving him at my work which is at a house. I don't feel comfortable leavingh I'm in the bag though in case he comes in the morning hours. He'll be in there for an awful long time.I was thinking of bringing my small one gallon tank with me and getting that ready for him for when he comes. What do you all think? Or do you think he'll be Ok in the bag untilI get home with him? I probably won't have him till Wednesday or Thursday the latest hopefully. Natalie

I think I would take the little 1 gallon till you get home. He would be in a bag with the ammonia rising and the PH dropping if you kept him in the bag.

He can go into the one gallon as long as you have the time at work to acclimate him properly in the bag. If not he should stay in the bag as it will be more dangerous to just dump him into new water he is not acclimated to than to leave him in the other water for a few hours. He really needs to go through a good acclimation period unless you write to the people that are sending him and find out you have the same pH and hardness and nitrate levels.

Well this is what I will do. I will bring the 1 gallon with some pretreated water in a jug, just incaswe he comes early in the morning. Chances are he may be delivered with the regular mail in the afternoon and that's usually between 2-4 which would be fine because I usually get out a little after 4. He wouldn't have to stay in that bag too long then and I won't have to put him in the tank. Does that sound like a good plan? Natalie

LOL Poe. o be honest I don't know what it is about him, but I just find him doing strange things. Like, one time I happened to be off of work and he was home too and I went go out and walk to get the mail. Well I happened to look over at his kitchen window and he was peeking through one of the blinds and watching this one woman talk to this guy in a car. I tried to just ignore it. Then one day more recently my husband and I went to the mall and we saw him there. We were coming down the escalator and he was going up it. I happened to turn around at him because I had this feeling that he was staring at me and he was. Shutter. That's why he scares me. He reminds me of a peeping tom or a stalker. That's why I don't completely trust him. I'll say hI in passing, but that's it.

I was hoping to receive RJ today, but I didn't. I'm so worried that he's not going to be alive by the time he get's here. I guess it's just paranoia. It's my first time doing this. The temps are way out of control here in Phoenix lately. The temps have been way above normal and each day they keep going up and up. Today it was 92. Tomorrow Ithink it's supposed to be 94. By Saturday it'll be 96. I love Phoenix and I certainly don't miss the snow, but I'm not ready for the high temps either. It's not exactly a good time either especially since I'm expecting him. I don't want him to fry in this heat. I told her that she may want to pack a cold pack in with him just so he doesn't get too warm by the time he reaches here. I don't know whether or not she did. I hate not knowing where he is. I feel like I'm waiting for a young child to come in from across the country all along with out someone escorting him. AHH!! Rose how do you deal with the waiting period? I can't handle it!!

Well I just checked my email because I emailed the woman that I bought him from and asked if she was tracking him by chance. She just emailed me back and was nice enough to give me the tracking number. I tracked it and the o nly info they have is the retrieval info in Louisiana. I hate when they don't udate daily. That is so annoying. She said I should have him tomorrow. I sure hope so. I'll be tracking him in the morning to see if they udated it yet. Natalie

If I would've known that priority mail through USPA was going to take this long I would've had it shipped to my place because at least my husband would've ben able to accept him today because he had the day off and plus I would've insisted on having him shipped over night instead through UPS. I had already payed for him and that's why she wanted to ship it priority mail, but I had told her that I would pay the difference of shipping right away if she wanted me too. Well mail has and come gone. There was a package through priority mail, but it wasn't for me. I'm really irritated about this now. It is Friday and I'm not going to be here tomorrow to receive the mail. It's maddening to order something shipped via USPS and have to wait for a week or more for it's arrival.  And that's when it's something inanimate.  To have something live shipped by the postal system would have to be nerve-wracking.  I wonder if a trace can be put on it?  The USPS never gives destination arrival estimates on their site, but they do have a way of tracking packages.  Maybe the shipper could initiate it.

Anyway, I wish you and the RJ the best.

There could be. I don't know. The guy I talked to when I called the 800 number said that with the priority mail there is usually delays. I don't know why. The seller emailed me back about the packaging content. This is what she said.

I'm really upset with this woman because she didn't do anything I asked her to do. I told her to pack an ice pack in the package, so that when he did get closer to warmer temps he wouldn't over heat. She never packed one. The water he was sitting in was disgusting and was orange in color which I'm assuming it was the stress reliever stuff that they put them in to reduce their stress.

I emailed her & pretty much told her how I felt. I told her that if she wanted to continue doing this then she shouldn't use USPS priority because it's not a dependable way to ship a live animal. I told her she should use UPS Expedite or Fedex overnight. Yes, it's a lot more expensive, but people when they buy these fish online want it to be alive when it arrives not dead and will pay the money just get them alive.

I am considering emailing her back and instead of getting my money back demanding that she send me a new fish for free on everything, fish and shipping and I want it over nighted. I mean I did tell her that I would be willing to pay her the extra money for the expedite UPS, even though I had already paid for it and I would've just sent her the difference. She never agreed to do it, so I feel that this her fault for not doing what I asked and therefore she should replace at no cost to me. It's only fair.

You have a right to be upset.. she shows even less regard for the lives of these wonderful Bettas than the chain stores that sell the Betta prisons and known toxic meds. Sad way for the fish to go when he had a good home waiting. I mean, come on - we've just gotten into the Betta world this year and would have enough sense not to use the so-called "priority" mail to ship something living or even perishable and how could she not put in an icepack if she even has a clue how sweltering hot it gets in those trucks, planes, etc. I love the Bettas but get frustrated with the "live-or-die, same to me" attitude I find in the fish suppliers world. I hope she'll send you a new, living fish overnighted in the proper packaging or a complete refund so you can find a breeder with a tiny bit of knowledge in shipping. Good luck with that.
