I Finally Got A Python!...now How To Save Water To Clean Filter

I just got a python finally. I've been using the aqueon self-primer with the bulb to squeeze. It was a heck of a time refilling constantly, so I switched . My question is that I used to just save my last bucket for cleaning out the filter media- pads, carbon, biogrids, and sponges. How does that work with the python? I don't want tap water mixing with my tank water in a bucket under the drain part or anything. Should I just get out my old water changer and clean them? How does this work, Python users?

I've done it two ways. I use my hand siphon to fill up one bucket and use that while the python is doing its thing. Or I fill a bucket with tap water, treat it with prime, and use that.

Ok. Thank you for input My next question is: Why can't I use it to drain my tank? I can fill them, but I can't drain them without using so much water pressure that it sprays out of the sink.

Is the tank top higher or lower than the faucet connection? If the tank top is too close in height to the faucet connection, it will be harder to get good suction. The greater the height difference the more that gravity will help move the water.

Make sure the Python hose valve near the tank end vacuum tube is wide open. Also same atthe faucet end tee-valve.

Do you get good water volume when filling the tank using the Python?

Yes, but some stays in the fixture until I take it off when filling.
They are close in height.
Yes, all the valves are open. Any tips to empty, or just keep using buckets and hand pump gravel vac?

I have the same problem with water splash in my bathroom sink. I just cover the whole sink with a towel to catch the spray.

Honestly, I have never cleaned my filters with tank water. I just fill up the kitchen sink with clean tap and then treat it with prime and go to town. I have never had an issue.

And I fill the tank with the Python too - right out of the tap. I just turn the filters off and then dump in enough Prime for a full tank volume - then fill with the python.
