So in my 29 gallon tank I have a couple amazon swords, banana plant and couple other ones and they are getting brown algae build up around the edges of the leaves. they just don't look healthy.

they are planted in sand, with a 94 watt T5HO 6500 k light(light is about 12'' above tank), temp is 76 degrees, using apI leaf zone, bubble stone. The light is on about 10 hours a day. The bubble stone is on the same timer as the light

NO3-0
NO2-0
GH-75 ppm
KH-40 ppm
PH-7.0

I have been practicing with plants in my 29 gallon for a couple month with not much success. cause I want to plant my 125g I just bought... but I want to get the plant care down so I don't waste lots of money with dead plants in the 125g

please help

Try reducing the photo period to 7 hours, and leave the bubbles off when the lights are on.I would remove them myself. How often and how much are you dosing ferts? How often and how big are you doing water changes?

API LeafZone is not a balanced fert. It only adds iron and potassium. Are you dosing anything else? Swords are heavy root feeders and do best with substrate ferts. What about CO2?

I agree the the lights need to be reduced. I'd cut back to 6 hours a day while you work on balancing your ferts and CO2.

No co2.

I have been adding 5-10ml of the leaf zone about every 3-4 days but I just bought some seachem flourish tabs a couple hours ago

and I have been doing 5 gallon water changes once a week.

I will go put the root tabs in now. should I have the bubbles on a couple hours when the lights are off? how often should I use the root tabs?

and I will reduce light time

With no CO2 dosing, you could run your air as much or as little as you want. Just monitor the fish to determine the oxygen level in the tank.

Flourish Root Tabs are dosed every 1-3 months. I place them near my heavy root feeders, not across the entire tank like the direction state.

Hopefully these changes will slow down the algae in your tank.

There will be some CO2 in the tank. And running the airstone will gas what little there is off. I think you should shut it off, and leave it off until the problems are remedied. I don't think it will make that much of a difference, but it's worth a shot.

I think you are suppose to add new root tabs every three months or so.
