I have a betta, and he lives in my new 5ish gallon tank. I had a really tiny, microscopic even, tank that the petshop owners are fond of (stupid people think betta's love to be cramped in a glass). >

However, like most of the noobs here, I just can't help but go to my luvable pet shop, which had my betta in a 10 gallon tank, heated and the whole works. I just can't help but gaze affectionatly at the fish in the windows, sometime, maybe I should ask the petshop keeper

"How much is that fishy in the window"

However, from what I've gathered, "the one with the waggly tail" doesn't work at all for me!!!

(this is where the tantrum begins)

I WANT A PRETTY ANGEL FISH IN MY TANK WITH MY BETTA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But I can't, because they'll tear each other to shreds!

What would YOU put in a 5gallon?

(PS Remember I have a heater ect.) Yours sincerly, Kristyn :'(

I have a 5.5 gallon with several little Endler's guppies in it and some feeder shrimp.  You could probably put a few of either in with your Betta, but honestly your Betta is probably happier being in there all by himself, and not having to share.  An angel would not only fight with your betta but would grow way too big.  I have 2 angels in a 37 gallon that started out the size of a mid-sized tetra and are now very large,  probably 6 or 7 inches tall.

Angels are gorgeous fish and so lovely to watch with their graceful movements, but NO you cannot have one in the tank with your Betta baby. Osiris is very correct. The little betta would be much happier on his own with just a couple of cories or Otos. the surest thing I have found with mine is the snails. The Bettas tend to treat them like puppies or something and seem to at least relate to them

Okay...
What about a Platy, plain coloured, of course?

Don't Crys grow huge though, they might out grow my tank, which is only 6 gallons (I worked out)

Corydoras catfish get to a maximum of 4 inches but some only 1.5 or 2 inches. you could easily get say two of the smaller ones. Otos also are cute and they stay pretty small.

Cories will not work with a Betta in a 5 gallon tank. They need to be kept in at least 3's and that is too much fish for a 6 gallon without the Betta. You need to remember that a Betta is territorial and the more crowded they feed the more aggressive they are going to be. My 5.5 has a Betta and 3 Otos and they get along fine with the addition of an Ivory Mystery Snail. (but I do water changes 2-3 times a week) The ideal would probably be the Betta and the Snail and 2 Otos.
