HI everyone! I am new to fishlore as of today so I don't really knownwhat to expect. I have 7 tanks that are all fairly small: 36 gallon with 2 discus, 10 gal with guppys cardinal tetras and a boat load of snails, 10 gal with 3 goldfish, 10 with a betta,2.5 gallon with a betta, 1 gallon with a betta and a 1 gal with a female guppy. I feel very overwelmed with all of these thanks and want to downsize but I don't know what to give away. Please help me! Thanks

Have to considered just having one or two larger tanks?

Personally, i'd either put 2 dividers in the 10 gallon with a betta. put the female guppy in the center section and a betta on either side of her. Down two tanks in one go!

I would start by rehoming the goldfish because they don't belong in a 10 gallon and their waste output will be so high that you'll be doing constant maintenance on that tank just to keep them alive.

Then I would move or rehome the female guppy in the 1 gallon. Can she be in with the other guppies? If not then I would rehome her. 1 gallon is too small for any fish.

Can the Cardinal Tetras go in with the Discus?

The 10 gallon betta tank can be divided to provide a home for all 3 of your bettas.

That would leave you with:

36g: Discus & Cardinal tetras
10g: 3 bettas, divided
10g: guppies

The snails can be added into any of those tanks.

Well first of all the one gallon tanks are not appropriate for fish at all, you could do a shrimp/snail tank with those.

The cardinals need to be in something bigger then a ten gallon due to their activity level. Goldfish is also too big for a ten gallon. The guppys will probably breed a lot.

What size tanks do you want to keep? What fish do you really want? How many guppys do you have? It really depends on what you want, below is just all my personal opinion on what you could do.

I personally would keep one ten gallon, one one gallon, and the thirty-six gallon. I would rehome all bettas but one, and keep it in the ten gallon with lots of plants. If you have nerite snails those would work great with a betta.

The one gallon tank would be a good place for the snails and you could get some shrimp too.

Then rehome the Discus since they usually like a bigger group. and I don't think thirty-six gallon is big enough for that. I'm not an expert on Discus or anything, they are a complicated fish.

As far as I know you could then do a school of cardinals (at least six), and then your guppys in the thirty-six gallon. I'm unsure on temp. compatibility with them. I personally don't like guppys because of fast they breed, so I would probably rehome them too. You did rehome them you could make the thirty-six gallon tank a showcase tank with some cardinals tetras, cory cats for the bottom, and a center peice fish of some kind.

Thanks for all of the feed back! I think I am going to put dividers in my 10 gal betta tank and put the bettas and female guppy in there. I am going to put two of the 3 goldfish because the other one is deformed and won't do well with bigger fish. Thanks again for all of the replies!

What are you going to do with the goldfish?

One thing are all of the bettas one sex (all female or all male)?

2 of them will go in a goldfish pond and the other one will stay because he is deformed and will not do well with other big goldfish. All of the bettas are male.

I'm not sure I would put the guppy in with the bettas, even if it it a divided tank. Just having them nearby will be stressful enough. Is she not able to go with the other guppies?

If the dividers are opaque, then shouldn't that reduce the stress?

Yes, hopefully, but fish sense each other by more than just sight.

The dividers are going to be dark and The guppy is female and all of my others are male so she can not go with them. One of my bettas does well with other fish if they are not colorful so I will put my female guppy with him and watch and see what happens.

I would feel safer adding an extra divider to give the guppy her own space. I don't think putting her in with a male Betta is a good idea no matter how calm he seems to be.

Ok I might move her then to my 2.5 that one of the bettas was in.
