I-5 Seattle is not the place to find yourself stranded. Especially at night. Especially if you're a dark grey kitten.
On my drive home tonight just after midnight I saw a dark colored kitten running along the wall that separates the interstate from the many neighborhoods that are Seattle. I pulled over and tapped the red triangle button on my dash, four way flashers on. Car in neutral, parking break on.
", a lot of cars coming. Kitten could already be dead, or injured. I could be killed or injured. Its dark, my clothes are dark. My phone has a flash light, I'll use it to alert drivers I'm here. Where's the kitty? There! There's kitty, huddled down, terrified. Well what if this cat is feral? I don't want to scare it into traffic.
Easy kitty. Easy."
As I reached for the kitten it flattened its ears and hissed and growled. Worried id be bit or scratched I took off my coat and threw it over the cat.
"Easy kitty.". I scopped the cat up worried it was injured. Quickly I walked back to my car and got in. I placed my coat with the very light weight cat on the seat beside me.
"Ugh, what do I do now? I'll call Duncan.
Hey Duncan, I need your help."
It wasn't long after I started to drive to Duncan's apartment that I-5 kitty came out from under my coat. She crawled into my lap, began purring and rubbed her face on mine.
Armed with a carrier, some litter and a few cans of food, thank you Duncan, kitty and I were headed home for the night.
Shes all settled in for tonight. Tomorrow I'll begin the hunt for her home. Shes super sweet, someone misses her dearly.
With all the car wrecks on I-5 I'm worried she was in someone's car who wrecked and kitty got away. Ill call the shelters tomorrow. Poor sweet kitten. Seems physically fine minus her claws being so short she can't scratch or climb with them, ground down to nothing.
