Hydor heater

Hello everyone I got a Hydor heater today it has been plugged in for about 20 minutes all I see is a red indicator light that is barely showing. I know this is a stupid question does that mean it is working It doesn't seem to be heating the water much, maybe I haven't had it in the water long enough. Does anyone have one of these for their tank?? I am hoping it will be a dependable heater.

I have the 300 watt heater. When light is on is heating. To tell if it's heating you can touch it or look at it from side you will see like heat waves. I had mine for 4 months so far so good I keeps my 55 gallon at toasty 80 degrees and is not even in the middle is all way on right side. And if goes bad I have 2 year warranty on it.

Yep they light is orange color, when is on you should see the heat waves(like little ripples in water near the heater.)

When I first installed this heater, I had it facing the wrong way, so you couldn't really see the light

Don't use the heater dial as the actual temp. You'll need a regular thermometer to measure the actual temp.

Put it in the water and wait about 20 min before plugging it in so it can acclimate to the water temp (I know you're waaay past this ).

If I remember correctly, I turned it up until the light just lit, so it would heat the water slowly-and monitored the heck out of it for the first few days. Only raise the temp about 1 degree/hr with fish.

Also, if you put it near the outflow of the filter, the temp should heat more evenly. Supposedly, you can also mount it horizontally (haven't tried this).

I have had good results with this heater (1.5 + yrs).
