Ok I bought some yellow labs. They have the black line across top fin. But one of them has faint black vertical bars across its body. Is it a hybrid?

I think that is normal. Some of mine are like that. I also think it means some are males and females.

This was one of the very first African lake cichlids introduced to the hobby.
There are many different domestic color variations.
A solid black line across the dorsal is what is seen in wild fish, however, the vertical black line is not.

So its not necesarily a hybrid. Just not such great line.

During the last 40 years, a lot of the domestic fish have been pool bred.
So, efforts to use only the best quality fish were nonexistent.
I would go with not a great line.
