Hurricane Survival!

I just had to post this. My tank had finally stabilized and completely cycled. Then, I hear on the news that Florence is on her way to NC, where I live. It didn't look good; we have a pond in the back ad a pond in the front of our apartment building. The pond in the back is approximately 25 feet from our back patio. My son, who lives in Maryland called and insisted we come to his house in MD until the storm was over, We packed our bags, and put all the furniture we could up on chairs and other high places. We took our dog, of course, but I was so upset that I had to leave my fish tank, but there was nothing I could do about it. I have a pet sitter, who normally takes care of my dog when we are away for a day trip. I contacted her and arranged for her to come every 2 days to feed and check on the fish. We did lose power for 12 hours, but the fish seemed to have done well, despite that. I asked her also to put Prime in the tank when she came, since we were gone for 10 days. I had her leave the light off, since I didn't want to subject them to light 24 hours a day. I just wanted to share this, since I am so very happy that all went well for my fish. We have been home for two days, and they all seem just fine...some may say I was silly to worry because they are "just fish", but I knew you all would understand.

I was wondering about how people with fish tanks and pets were doing in the wake of Florence. I'm so happy to hear your tank fared well! Thanks for sharing! Also, you have a good pet sitter!

I'm very glad to hear that you, your family, and your pets are doing well in the wake of Florence. I too can sympathize as Floridians have also had more than their share. You did the right thing in a tough situation, and it is very good that you and your son have places to run, (in each other) if either of you is in danger from such a storm again. Florence had me terrified for the people of coastal NC and it is very good to hear good news from one of y'all.

Thank you! Yes, I imagine you also know the stress of going through something like this. I am starting to chant "Hurricane, go away".. I hear there are a few more possible ones in the making.. I hope they all blow out to sea!

Glad to hear everything and everyone are OK!!!!
Thank you!

Thanks, we are obviously overjoyed about it. I didn't know that hurricanes were that bad in the part of NC that we moved to about 5 months ago.

Yes, obviously things could have been a lot worse. Our area got hit hard, but not nearly as bad as they had predicted, thank heavens! I know there are parts of NC, not very far from where we live that have a lot of storm damage and flood damage. My heart warms at how people come together in this type of situation to help each other out.

I would say the problem you are having is all due to the storm hanging over the area for so long. And all the rain I dumped.

Yes, the flooding was minimal where I live, but Wilmington, New Bern, and Lumberton, which all are near or on the coast suffered a lot from this storm.

Bless you, Goldie.
Many folks are still suffering from the after-effects of Florence.
I think of them and pray for them every day.
I hope all continues to be well for you and yours.

Thank you! We were indeed blessed; and praying for those less fortunate. I always worry about the animals, both domesticated and undomesticated; it must be very scary for them.
