Hunchback Platy and Guppy females?

I have a Platy and Guppy (both females) that have developed a hunchback of sorts. The guppy had it first, I thought it was because she was pregnant. But there are no males in the tank anymore, so there's no chance she's pregnant again (I've had her for 6 months or so) Then about a month or so ago my female platy developed the same hunchback. (no male platys so she can't be pregnant either.) Does this happen as they age, or is something wrong with them?

 

Can you take pictures of them so we can see?

 

This generally happens when the fish reaches old age.

 

It's kinda hard to see, they don't hold still long enough! ( I couldnt get a single one of the guppy!) I thought maybe it was age but wanted to make sure. thanks!

When it is accompanied with rapid weight loss, a hunched or curved back can be a symptom of TB. So keep an eye on them...hopefully it's just old age.

 

they look to be of good weight so it does look like old age. you could give them liquid vitamins, but that's good for any fish. Do they hang out around the heater a lot?

 

The platy is a little skinny... But the guppy and platy are still very active, never holding still for more than a second. Who makes the liquid vitamins? What am I looking for in the store?

 

we get: from this website, but there are other liquid vitamins - seems random who carries them though. we never saw any at our local deathco.

 

Ok thanks. I remember reading that the vitamin drops were good too for repairing damage to a bettas tail from fin rot? Can anyone confirm/deny this?

 

We've had a ton of success with fin regrowth on a number of bettas, including Sweetie who we rescued in pretty bad shape (the 1st pic is a little misleading since the flash makes her look green when she looked colorless and had deep stress lines).

it took about a month for her analfin to completely grow back.. we actually saw regrowth within a week. the pectoral fin that was bitten off grew back in a couple weeks and her missing scales grew back not long after that. we've seen it help regrow fins on aslan after his fin rot episodes and sora after he accidentally bit a big chunk of his tail fin off going after food and angel had some scales get scraped off on a decoration that grew back in a couple weeks.. it depends on the betta and all of course, but using it daily we've had great results and use it every day now. it's funny - sometimes the vitamin drops will make these little rings in the water and our bettas like to nip at them. I like to drop the drops on the area that needs it or just around where they're swimming.

 

That's awsome. I went to petland yesterday and was looking to pick up some trisulfa, the vitamin drops, and some prime... and of course they had none of them. DFS was out of the trisulfa, but I found some on ebay, so hopefully it won't take me too long to get it. Is there anything I can do for him while I'm waiting for the trisulfa?

 

Trisulfa goes out of stock often.. it seems pretty popular and in demand.. I guess mostly what you can do for him until the meds get there is keep the water clean.. that's why we like the vitachem so much, it's a lot of waiting and antibiotics mostly so it's nice to be able to do something other than keeping the water clean. do you have any other items in your fish cabinet that you think might be useful?

 

I lost the platy overnight. She was swimming fine last night when I turned the lights off, and this morning she was dead on the bottom. I'm just going to assume that it was old age. Now I'm down to just 2 otos, 2 panda corys, and 5 guppys (3 adults 2 babies) in my 20 gallon. I thought about adding some more, or maybe just waiting and getting something new later on.
