How Would You Stock A 120g Long?

I may be getting a 120G in the near future and I would like some suggestions please, the tank is 60''x18''x26''. I kind of like the idea of an Oscar but I am not set on any particular fish yet. I will be using a light colored sand, with driftwood and rocks as the hardscape and I may or may not use plants, (it depends on the fish) I would like tropical, subtropical, and coldwater options as well a variety of colors and personality. :) @TexasDomer @Anders247 @BottomDweller

    I would either have

    Coldwater
    3-4 dojo loaches
    2-3 fancy goldfish
(loads of personality with these fish I have taught my goldfish and dojos to eat from my hand and do simple tricks)

    or
    Tropical
    2 angelfish
    4 GBR
    1 clown pleco
20 cardinal tetras or harlequin rasboras
    15 cherry barbs
    20 kuhli loaches

    or
    Subtropical/temperate
15 rosy barbs or Odessa barbs or leopard or zebra danios
20 neon tetras or bloodfin tetras or skirt tetras
    8 variatus platies
    10 guppies
    2 bolivian rams
3 dojo loaches or 20 peppered or panda cories
    1 BN pleco

Or a betta sorority with kuhli loaches

Whatever you decide to stock it with it will be fun to stock!

4-5 red head tapajos or guianacaras, an angelfish or severum, a school of larger tetras, a school or cories, and some gorgeous swordtails. You have a big tank, take advantage of it with some bigger fish!

I have recently fallen in love with the vieja heterospila. Such a pretty fish of blues and greens. Also probably the most peaceful of all of the vieja genus.

I like cichlids so here would be my stocks...

    Cold water (70ish)
    3-4 Dojo Loaches
    6-8 GymnoGeophagus Balzanni
    2-4 Apistogramma Borelli
    10-12 Buenos Aires Tetras
Probably still have lots of room to do something else with if you wanted to.

    Subtropical (75ish)
3-5 Hoplo Catfish (still could do a couple of dojos if yuo wanted)
    1 Gold Severum
    1 Rotkiel Severum
    1 Green Severum
    1 Peruvian Severum
    8-10 White Skirt Tetras

    Tropical
    1 Vieja Heterospilus
    1 Blood Parrot/Chocolate CIchlid
    4-5 Rainbow/Sajica Cichlids
Pick 2 of the following (Senegal, Delhezi, P. Polli Bichirs)
If you don't like bichirs then I'd do a couple featherfin cats for the bottom. You may be able to fit 3 large cichlids with a shoal of smaller cichlids and be fine.

Any other suggestions? I also like mbuna! :)

Would it be alright to have an Oscar in this tank with a few catfish?

I really like the look and personalities of the Congo Tetras, maybe a tank including them you might like.

This may not be what you have in mind, but if I had a 120 gallon I would do a saltwater tank and stock it with some tangs, clownfish, angelfish etc. That's my dream anyway, it may not be yours.

Otherwise I'd suggest a peaceful community tank or some fancy goldfish.

I love that idea! but sadly I'm not financially ready to handle a saltwater tank yet. :(
What kind of catfish do you recommend? and could I keep other cichlids with an Oscar? :)

@TexasDomer did you get my mentions? :)

I did, but you've gotten a lot of good suggestions and didn't think you needed more from me :) If you want some, I can give you some! But I'd like some ideas from you of what kind of fish you want.

I really like the idea of just keeping a few large fish and I would really like to have a Oscar if possible. What else can you keep with such a large fish? :)

I would think your options for more large fish than just an oscar are pretty limited in a 60" tank.

    What about this?

    1x Oscar
    1x Chocolate cichlid
    10x Giant danios
    2-3x Striped raphael cats
    5-6x Hoplos

Disclaimer: I'm not good with stocking with oscars, but this would be one of my best guesses for a tank with an oscar and another large cichlid.

I really like the chocolate cichlid but I have never seen them at my LFS. :( any other cihlids I could keep with Oscars?

You would need something large enough not to be bullied by the oscar but also peaceful. Rather than us suggesting fish you can't get, I would go to your LFS and write down the names of the fish available to you that you like.

Sounds like it might be okay! The severum may not grow as large as the oscar, but that may be okay.

Yeah I almost want it to just be an Oscar tank, (they are such amazing fish!) with a few catfish for the bottom. Is there a type of pleco I could keep with an Oscar? :)

Most any that won't fit in its mouth!
