How Would You Rescape This 20 Gallon Freshwater Tank?

Recommendations/suggestions wanted for this 20 gallon freshwater tank
Decorations: Dragon bubbler, 2 driftwood (1 not pictured), jugs, hut, river stones, 1 floating island rock
Residents: Guppies, Panda Cory, Celestial Pearl Danios, Shrimp, Snails, African Dwarf Frog, Orange Lobster
Plants: pathos, amazon sword, moneywort, goldern ribbon, moss ball, banana plant, ludwigia, anubis

I think I want to change the formation of the substrate, give it some dimension, but also want to provide enough hiding places for all of my bottom dwellers

I would add some tall background plants such as anarchias or a very large java fern. Good luck!

This is just my personal taste and what I would do but it's your tank so do whatever you like of course. I personally like a natural look so I would take out the jug and hut decorations. I would move the driftwood to the back right area. Put some tall stem plants like that ludwigia in the back right behind the driftwood and keep trimming and replanting the stems until its a nice bushy area of stem plants. I would add either another piece of driftwood or larger rocks to the back left sort of where your jugs are, keeping the mid ground and foreground of the center of the tank mostly open. Maybe scooch those sword plants a bit further back then put some smaller/lower plants in front of your larger plants in the back. That's just my taste in tanks, everyone has their own though...good luck! post pics of future progress!

Thanks for the suggestions! I have moved things around since this photo and plan to do some more changes this weekend. I'm kinda worried that I'm stressing my fish out with all these changes so after this weekend I'm gonna leave it alone to mature a bit. will post pictures when I am finished

I don't mean to make light of your post, but I couldn't help but to laugh a little when I read this. I was just picturing your fish going "What in the world is happening here. Everything just keeps moving around." Sorry, I guess it's just a Friday thing.

haha its totally fine, I think they are thinking that as well. I attribute it to being new to the hobby, just finding what I like. my guppies are great, they just roll with everything, but some of my other critters do not appreciate the disturbances

I wasn't just thinking of your fish. We all do stuff like that. A few weeks ago I had to move one of my fish from my 36 gallon to my 55 gallon because of some aggression issues. Since my tanks have the same water parameters and temperature I just scooped it up with the net and dropped it in the other tank. It just set in the middle of the tank for a few minutes looking around like "What just happened to me and where am I?" It was fine after a few minute though.

Oh, anyway to get back to the actual subject of your post. I agree with toeknee. I like a natural look, but it is all personal taste. I don't think the fish mind what it looks like as long as it is functional for them. I'm not a great aquascaper myself, but I try to do what makes the fish happy and healthy regardless of how it looks.
