How tolerant of pH changes are cardinal tetras?

How tolerant in terms of pH are cardinal tetras? I know my tap water pH changes, although it usually changes slowly. Over the years it's been 7.6-7.8 range, then slowly went down to 6.2-6.4 range, and has now drifted up to 6.6-6.8 range.

If it slowly changes I wouldnt even worry about it. Unless its the 6.2-4 range when you are trying to cycle a tank.

Is low pH while cycling bad?

I've found cardinal tetras, and most soft water fishes for that matter, to be quite tolerant of pH changes.

I've kept cardinal tetras in high tech tanks where the pH can swing a point or more from day to night. It doesn't bother them at all.

So long as your pH doesn't swing outside their preferred range (most sources say 5-7.5), all should be well.
