How To Treat Lice On Goldfish

Hello folks, I’m here to ask what the best way to treat Lice on goldfish. I have 2 new Ryukin in quarentine, and the will soon be going on my 55 Gallon tank. And I think I’ve spotted a couple of small lice on them. I’m currently treating them with cuparime in quarentine, and was planing on keeping them there for 2 weeks. Any other suggestions or ideas to get rid of the Lice?

Thanks a lot.

Here are a couple of shots of them

I personally use PraziPro. Is it more effective than cuparime? I don’t know. I never heard of it. I’m not sure I’d be comfortable mixing different meds together, so perhaps stick to one thing at a time, and then if the issue isn’t resolved, switch to something else.

By the way, nice looking Ranchus. They look beautiful; they look healthy. The photography is excellent, as well.

I’m surprised you haven’t heard of it, it’s Seachem brand copper. Copper is by far more effective than anything on parasites, but it’s also very hard on your fish.

I did pick PraziPro for its mildness. Granted, I also never had any serious parasitic issue other then ich, so I never really looked at any of the harsher options.

I’ve never used it at home either, I’m afraid of copper lol.

OP: you picked the most effective treatment, just don’t overdose.

Only time I ever had this problem, I used tweezers to pull off lice then added salt to the water. Never had another. I dose my pond once every three months for a few days with salt.
