How To Transfer Betta Fry To Growout Tank?

Hello Fellow Fishlore Members,
Its been 2 weeks since my Betta Frys have been free swimming. I want to prepare them to my 20 gallon grow out tank away from the breeding tank. Just a few question regarding the transfer:
- How should I transfer them over? I don't think a net will do, so in that case do I just try to scoop every fry I can get over and acclimate them?

-How long should I age the new 20g?

-Is it safe to turn on the sponge filter at low level after transfer?

-On the day of their hatch, some snails ALSO hatched as well. And should they also be transfer over?

Any advice or tips will be greatly appreciated. This is my first spawn =) Thank you

How big is the tank they are in now and how many fry do you have? I prefer to wait till my betta fry are around 1cm or larger before I move them over. I’ve always used a soft but relatively stiff net to put them in a cup, the float acclimate them in the cup before releasing them.

I was highly recommended to breed in a plastic box that's about 40 liters. Meaning the water level only rises about 5 inches or so. I would want them in a bigger tank with higher water level to aid them in developing.
There are around 70+ betta frys.

70 is a decent spawn size. I’d probably start draining the tank and removing as much of the waste on the bottom as possible. When most the water is gone you can tip the fry into another container or float the spawn tub in the growout tank if it will fit.

Otherwise netting them really shouldn’t hurt them if you do it fast but gently.

As for the sponge filter you can definitely have it set on low. I usually have the filter going right after free swimming but on the lowest possible flow.

For the snails, do what you want with them. Keeping them will the fry will only foul the water faster.

For aging the new tank just get it to the same temp, add a cycled sponge filter and your set. You should be doing daily water changes now so waste shouldn’t build up too fast.
