How To Safely Move My Betta Fish?

HI Fishlore,

I am moving in a little over a week, and just want to know what measures I should take for safely transporting my betta fish with me to my new apartment. It's not going to be long drive like 40 minutes or something, but I am just wondering what is the simplest, surest way to safely get my betta and his filtered tank to the new place?

also can I just put my betta in a sealed tupperware container for the journey?

Thanks.

A sealed tupperware would be fine, as would a small bucket or a fish bag.

Yes a Tupperware that is rinsed out throughout(just water) would work fine, just make sure the betta has access to a layer of air.

I used a small Tupperware container that a lady on her shipped my Pleco to me in. She had poked little tiny holes in the lid. My betta and my snail traveled together in there and they did fine

Make sure you keep your media wet during the move as well. You could put the media with the Betta if you get a big enough container. With it only being a 40 min drive, everything should transfer over smoothly.

I transport my betta in a large jar and put a black cloth around it to keep him from stressing.

Bagging or a sealed container should be fine. When I moved 45min away I also bagged the majority of the tank water and only added about 10% of new water since I wasn't sure if the parameters would be different. Turns out my ph was higher at the new apartment.
You could also drip acclimate instead if you do not want to bag the tank water.

Bagging the media is a must. I suggest keeping it in its own bag instead of with fish. You don't want it to accidentally fall on or hit the fish. Plus it may leach gunk into the water.

You can use a small mason jar or if you got your betta from a store with a cup use that. Either one would fit in a cup holder, but you'll need to make sure there's a hole for air flow. Make sure to not have a lot of light on your betta or check on it until you're stopped. I travel with my bettas and find this to be very efficient.
