How To Remove Stamped Price Code From Pvc Pipe.

Hello,
I purchased some pvc pipe for caves. A 1/2" elbow for my CPO and a 1" tee for other fish (I do have 3 terracotta pots already and they get used).

Anyway, I used a piece of an algae cleaning pad to scrub the stamp off and it didn't budge.

1) how do you get it off?
2) if it doesn't come off I assume it is safe because a lot of people use them.

I bought them at Lowe's, if it matters.

Thanks so much for your help, appreciate it.

Hi,
I would presume that it's safe, but, if you don't like all the black lines spoiling the white pipe, would scraping it with a razor blade get it off? I originally thought of a glass scraper, but don't know if that would be too big-and a bit dangerous on the curved surface!
Hope this idea helps!

Scrape it off with a knife, razor, etc. Drag the blade across it with the blade straight down, a 90 degree angle to the pipe, like you're brushing hair. It will all come off. You might need to take a piece of high grit sandpaper and smooth it out a little afterwards.

Hi, thanks for your thought. I realized I could try to sand it off.
If it's safe, I would turn the stamped side to the sand so not to be seen.

Thanks, I'll also try that. It feels smooth, like it is apart of the plastic!!!

I'll try removing but if unable do you know if it is safe?

it should come off with rubbing alcohol or fingernail polish remover and both won't leave anything behind unless you use scented fingernail polish remover. unscented is available at most stores and is acetone using too much might melt the pvc.
If you don't want to use either on it the ink is safe...

I don't see why it wouldnt be fine. It shouldnt come off in tank water, and even if it did, it would come off so slowly over time I don't see it posing a threat. Acetate (fingernail polish remover) should take it off too.

Thanks for your reply.
I have non-acetate polish remover so tried an alcohol prep pad. It didn't budge. Tried sanding and it worked. Left it a little rough but that side will face the sand.

Thanks for everyone's help and quick replies.

Yes, of course, sandpaper!
I can't think why I didn't think of that, I've just been decorating and have been using mountains of the stuff! ☺
