How to reduce food aggression?

sydrc

hi, i have two fancy goldfish in a 55 gal. i feed a little in the morning and a little at night. the black moor has trouble seeing where the food is so he gets less than the oranda if i put sinking pellets in. i make sure they get the same amount, maybe more for the black moor if i am using the feeding tongs. the problem is when i feed them, especially pellets, the oranda head butts the black moor when there is no food left. he will chase him across the tank and push him away from the sand. i’ve separated them during feeding times before but would prefer another option as to not stress out the oranda in a small container floating in the tank during feeding time. i’ve also tried rearranging the plants. it’s not a territorial thing. they got along throughout the day just fine. it’s only once the food is gone that he acts out. i really don’t want to get rid of him. thank you for reading.

Other than seperation or rehoming, probably not going to change the fish's personality over food.

You might just have to spot feed, or maybe you could add some dither fish.
