Last weekend we took a trip to the beach. We explored and came upon some cool looking green crabs.

Then the fun began, 4 adults could not figure out how to p/u a crab. We were all screaming like gitls. Haha. I picked it up w/ my flip flop. The guys tried to have Mr.Crab lock onto a stick.

Too funny rightI? So how is it done? I would love to show my nephew how it's done, without screaming like a girl. LOL.

Snickering.......

You pick them up solidly from the back so the claws can't reach your hand (or fingers)

I've always picked them up from behind - the one direction the claws don't go. :;scorpion

Edit: drat, ninja'd by Lucy while I was looking for a crab smiley!

We tried from behind and the little bugger would sit and stick his claws up at us.

It helps to distract it from the front then grab it from the back.

When I was a child in New England, we would tie salt pork on a string and put in the water to attract the crab, dragging the string toward the bank. Then my Dad would scoop them up with a net.

Generally, you push down on their back, and pick-up from behind.

Ryan, thanks for the video. Too cool!

Now if I can get the courage up. Funny, I can hold snakes no problem and bugs too.

Would those clippers really hurt. LOL. I don't want to find out.

Yep, they hurt! Like jamming your finger in a door.

The pressure they exerted is enormous for the size of the animal.

Grab them from the back part and grab the back side of the claws that is where you grab them they can not at all grab anything because you have the claws in your hand this goes for any invert that has claws as well they do not have strenght to pull away but the pinchers do so be aware of that I'm sure everyone knows that just saying for the rest of the readers. We had a big mud bug fest here at the house not long ago ohh (Krawfish for those that don't know what a mud bug is) I taught all the kids how to properly pick them up at first they were scared but kept showing them how to do this I wish that I had someone filming a video but did not maybe next time. It's really that easy and I have done this with lobsters as well...............
