I am new to fish and all so I accidentally combined two koi fish with 5 platy's. Then the koi, s attacked the platy's and killed two of them. I need an instant partition any suggestions ?its a 24 12 12 INCHES TANK

I'd rehome or return the koi as soon as possible. They are definitely not appropriate for a 20 gal tank, much less a divided 20 gal.

See if you can get a hold of some plastic craft mesh sheets. You can make a divider

I think this was addressed in another thread.

Until Ritesh Mishra can figure things out lets help them with the question in this thread

I haven't seen the other thread, so I didn't know it was already addressed. Sorry!

And the partition is only a very temporary solution, so I think my answer is appropriate

Perhaps, but again, that wasn't the question.

How big are the fish? I think you might need stronger stuff than plastic canvas to separate them.

The koi are not big. I will move them ASAP. Our lfs knows so .....

OK, how about instead of a partition just putting them in separate containers? A plastic storage bin would work fine, you'd just need to find some way of keeping the water clean and aerated.

Don't koi live in ponds? I would think small ones would be fine in a bucket for a day or two. One of those five gallon ones every house seems to have? Aren't they related to goldfish?

Hello,
I have had to make a partition in one of my tanks for fry, here is a picture of it:

It is a thin plastic chopping board you can buy at any supermarket. Its flexible Polypropylene, its Non-Absorbent, Odourless, Non toxic and Anti-bacterial. It comes it 4 bright colors, red yellow, green and blue. I have been using it as dividers in my Quad tank too so my bettas can't see each other. You just need to cut it to shape. As show in the photo above and below.

Here it is in green color too in another one of my tanks to stop these
bettas seeing each other

That looks great! I may have to try that next time I need to divide a tank

Couple of questions though: how did you attach them to the glass or are they just squeezed in there?

Did you drill any holes to allow flow between the compartments or do you have separate intakes and outlets for each?

HI Aqua,
Thank you, I think the bright colors looks fantastic too! And it is still nice on the eyes.
They are not attached to the glass dividers, they are just cut a little bigger so they sit in there tightly, they even bow a little.
The quad tank has tiny gaps under the dividers for water flow and the plastic doesn't affect that as it sits above the gaps.
You could drill holes in this plastic chopping board if you wanted too, its very thin and flexible.
I am still amazed I thought of it, I was told to block their view of each other for stress reasons. I rang my neighbor up and said, oh by the way that blue chopping board you have, can I cut it up for my fish tank, he laughed and brought it right over for me lol

Still need to be rehomed as they're inappropriate for your tank.
