How to keep a bare bottom spotless or is that possible?

I have a 5 gallon platy fry tank with 3 fry. I am doing partial water changes every other day of about 20 or 25%. I use a airline tube to siphon and clean the bottom which is bare bottom.

No matter how well I clean the bottom it never ends up spotless. So should I worry?

(The only way I know that it will end up spotless is emptying out the whole tank and rinsing it out then re filling it...but that in my opinion would be very stressful for the fry.)

 

I wouldn't worry and emptying the tank is too extreme and if you did that it wouldn't stay spotless for long

I don't think any tank its spotless once it has fish in it. My approach its to get enough of the crud that it is at least always new crud.

 

I agree I have to be pretty spot on with Houdinis tank because he is a swimming garbage disposal he will eat anything I have caught him trying to eat his silk plants and poop I put a new pre filter sponge in today for him n he spent a good amount of time figuring out if it was food or not

 

I run a couple tanks bare bottom. They are never "Spotless" You can take a turkey baster and target the stuff you want to suck up.

 

My barebottom 10 gallon stays pretty clean, and its got 3 goldfish quarantining in there. The trick is the 30 gallon filter LOL Barebottom tanks are something you have to stay on top of, otherwise they do get yucky looking fast.

 

Leave it to a new platy mom to worry to much ...

 

It just shows you care I'm exactly the same with my boys I panicked the other because one of them didn't come over as usual and it turned out he was asleep doh didn't figure it out until after I had done an emergency water change he was a little cranky after that wake up call
