How to identify what model aquaclear I have?

So I got another tank (30gal?) acrylic hex. It came with an aquaclear but, its missing the intake tube, lid, and basket. Was wanting to look up replacement parts but, I don't know what model it is.

Is there any ttrustworthy site with product dimensions that I could reference or something?

I'm not sure about where you could look it up but I just measured my AquaClear 30 and it is 6" wide and 4"deep, 6" tall. So that might be a decent starting point.

Oh wait a second, are you saying it is just the motor? My motors are all the same between my AquaClear 20s and my 30. At first I thought you had the part that actually hangs on the tank (I assume that is what you mean by basket) and the motor. Perhaps someone with more filter knowledge can correct me if I am wrong, but I think the motor part might be interchangeable. You should be able to buy spare parts at your LFS, at least the privately owned LFS I go to has spare parts.

If all you have is the motor, then it might be cheaper to buy a new unit. I've heard the replacement parts add up really quick. Maybe post up a picture of what you have, and then we might be able to help more.

No I have the motor and housing. Just no top, media basket, or intake tube

Just measured it and it appears to be a 30 which, is what I thought as the tank is around 30gal.

Will be looking up parts on ebay. Hopefully I can find say a complete one with a bad motor.

You might also have some luck on Amazon, I know I can find new spare parts as well as new filters on Amazon.ca, it should be comparable for the States. Also, I find it is generally a bit cheaper than buying at my LFS.

If your tank is pretty deep you may want to buy 2 intake tubes to stack so you reach closer to the bottom of your tank. Also since you didn't specifically mention it, don't forget the U-bend tube that attaches the intake tube to the motor. It is actually separate from the intake tube, which is why you can stack intake tubes together for greater length. It also makes cleaning much easier.

If you are going to have shrimp or small fish in there you might want to consider a prefilter sponge or something to cover the intake, so no bitty critters get sucked up. I use the fluval prefilter sponge on my AquaClear filters and they fit perfectly. It also prevents bits of plant from getting sucked up and clogging the filter.

Forgot to mention I have the ubend tube as well.

I have an aquaclear 20 in my 10 gallon fyi

This is not my first tank either. I have 4 tanks up and running already. This hexagon is likely going to sit in storage until I get a bigger place.

And yes I have a few of those prefilter sponges for my quarantine tank.

Yeah I priced out the replacement parts and its not worth completing. I'll just use my spare Marineland bio 200 when I do set the tank up.

Were you aware at time of purchase that the filter was missing these parts?
If not, you might have a word with the seller. Best of luck, rick

Yes I was. Plus it was a trade not a purchase, My item was worth maybe $70. $70 for a 30gal acrylic hex with stand is still a steal of a deal. Even though the tank is scratched up a bit.

Been doing some more research and since this tank is very tall I may just end up getting a cheap canister filter for it.

I love aquaclears in that you can bsasically choose your own media but, the intake tubes are so short.

My 2nd filter on my 55 (ex45) comes with an extension tube. I wish the aquaclears did too,

However I have never owned a canister before and this may be the time to give them a try, I have had great experience with sunsun wavemakers and have been looking at their canister filters.

I know you decided to go with a different filter type but I just thought I would mention that my 30 gallon AquaClear came with 2 intake tubes that I connected together to make a longer intake. I'm pretty sure my 20s both came with them too, between my 3 filters I have 6 intake tubes so they must have.

oh ok I may be wrong then. It's been years since I have purchased a new aquaclear.

It's prob going to be a while before I set this tank up so I will do some more research then.

I would also check for replacements instead. That's where I got some parts for my AC 50. And you can definitely attach as many extension tubes as you want together.

Thank you for the link! I'm amazed how cheap replacement parts are on that site. Way less than ebay which is unusual. Bookmarked!

Not worth getting the parts to complete this filter I have. Esp considering I am selling the Hex tank. Will just be keeping it for parts I guess.
