How to help Betta with popeye

Hey everyone,

So one of my female bettas has popeye, its very obviously protruded etc but its only one of her eyes and after researching i found that one eye is usually caused by an injury and i know that the other girls in the sorority pick on her. I know thats an issue but it's being addressed as whole but for right this moment she's now separated in a spare 6 gallon i have where I'm growing out a baby bristlenose.

She's eating as always and is not sitting around, shes swimming and exploring (its been 2 days since i moved her) and when I come over she comes to see me so she doesnt seem ill at all, its just her eye is bulging.

Im really making this thread to ask for advice on ways to help her heal? Im considering salt baths if anyone thinks that will help but ive never done that before so am a wee bit heaitant without guidance.

Thanks! :)

Can you post a few pictures of her? If it’s not terrible usually just clean water (add some almond leaves if you can) and time heals eye issues. Otherwise I would use antibiotics of some sort. Tetra has tablets that have worked for me, I do not recall which tablets I used though. Just be careful if you treat with the BN in the same tank as they can be sensitive to some medications.

Of course! I totally should have posted them with my original one :D

You can see it best here, she truthfully isnt in the best of shapes. Shes a little overweight and her fins are a little tatty from being picked on but like i said, she's separated now and im gonna get her into tip top shape :)

It may help to do epsom salt baths to draw out the fluid in the eye. If she starts going downhill I’d start antibiotics.

Noted, do you have any tips on epsom salt baths?

They are less stressful than salt baths so you can probably leave her in it for a good half hour depending on how she acts. I do not remember the exact amount per gal but something like 1tbs per gal. It is hard to OD on epsom salt as it is a pretty gentle treatment. You can even add a bit to the hospital tank as well.

Thank you! I'll update on her progress. Should I be doing that once a day? Or maybe just a few times a week?

One a day is good, if you don’t see improvement after a week then switch over to meds.
