How to glue plants on driftwood/rocks?

I am planning to set up a tank for the first time with live plants and I have a few rocks. I heard that plants such as anubias and java ferns do great glued on to rocks or driftwood than planted in substrate.

My question is, how do I glue on the plants to the rocks? Can I just glue them while in the water or do the rocks have to be completely dry and glue the plants out of the water? Then if so, how long do I wait before putting it back in the water?

Any other tips is appreciated!

 

Do they have to be glued? I would think the glue is harmful to the plants. I thought plants were tied to the driftwood with fishing line.

 

Instead of glueing or tying I use those tiny clear elastics and just put em around the rhizome and once the plant roots to the hardscape u can just pull the elastic off way easier than tying and glueing IMO

 

If you are going to use glue ( Seachem Flourish Glue or Super Glue Gel which are both safe ) I usually glue out of the water. Try to dry the area with paper towel before applying a bit of glue as the glue will turn white when set, sometimes that's not so appealing on a dark rock. The hardest part is not glueing your fingers together! I have used elastics like kallililly1973 and they work well too!

 

You can glue with super glue. I have done this many times and so do many other aquarists. You will need to let it dry though so whatever you are planning to glue to needs to be out of the water for a little while which means you’ll need to continue to spray you plants so they don’t dry out. Last time I glued my plants I left the out roughly 1 hour and misted them with water every 5-10 min while fixing the aquascape

 

I use seachem flourish glue

 

Yeah glue works and WEAR GLOVES. Even if you buy those little single use packages of glue. Trust me LOL.

I tie mine around first so it sits the way I want it to if it's large-ish , then a dab of glue on the string.

OR you can get "who care's?" about it and just use a cable tie! Anything, really.
