How To Get Otos To Eat?

so I have two oto catfish in with my bettas and. they just. don’t eat.

I got them about a month ago, and everyone seems to be doing fine. there’s lots of algae, I make sure to leave some for them when I clean the tank.
but they don’t eat the algae wafers or zucchinI I cut up for them, or anything. i’m really worried they’re going to starve to death since they won’t eat anything. i’ve tried leaving the wafers in, took it out after a few days, I left the vegetables in as long as I could and. nothing.

my fish leave them alone, i’m watching them very closely. they’re pretty active, as far as activity goes for otos anyways. no one is losing color, everyone’s a pretty vibrant color... they just won’t eat.

am I worrying for nothing and should leave them alone or? I just don’t want them to die, they’re my babies as well.

Otos like bigger numbers. Second boil vegetable for them it is to hard for them if it isn't boiled. You can try repashy super green I heard they go crazy about that. I will buy that now because they cleand my tank from algae. I tried algae wafers but they will not touch it.

Are they not feeding on the glass or on leaves of plants? Otos are primarily algae eaters, so if the are sucking along the glass and on plants, they are getting some nourishment

okay! they are on the glass and decor, although I don’t think they’ve figured out the plants yet.
i’ll try the green food, and boiling the vegetables... i’ll see if I can rehome them though when I move, because I don’t have a big enough tank to have more than two and I want them to be happy.

Just blanch the veggies. If you boil too long it will fall apart in your tank pretty quickly. Weigh it down or use a veggie clip that attaches to the side if you have one and put it in the same spot each time. It took mine a bit to try it at first. The next morning they were glued to it.

Can u post a pic of the fish (both)? You can guage their health/condition by how much tissue/muscle they’re carrying in the rear part of the body. This is easiest to see when they’re on the front glass of your tank, ie when ur looking at their tummies.
If that rear area is thin, u need to intervene and get them more nutrition, but if they’re thick/fat/chubby/fluffy (my wife uses the term “prosperous” in ref to our horses when they get their hay bellies ) they’re probably just fine. Otos are nocturnal, so it’s possible ur just not seeing them eating.

Can’t really see for the one on gravel, but the one on the glass looks healthy, IMO. As you wrote, both appear to have good color.
Getting them used to veggies will still be good for u and them, in that you’ll have a way to feed them if algae and other food in current tank fails.
I put clean uncooked zucchinI slices in veggie clip just below water line. They’ll either eat them, or not. But always place clips in the same place, and at the same time of day (recommend just before lights out). They’ll last 36 or so hours (2 nights, remove on 2nd morning).
