HI want want to get more suction from my vacuum discard hose. I want golf ball garden hose suction. I am tired of watching dirt chill in vacuum tube for a min before it gone. And taking for ever to vacuum the tank.
Side note what the ring on the top of the vacum for. Dirt has to go up the side of tube and down the ring to go back up the ring to get to the hose.

Hello there,

Welcome to FL
What type of water changer are you using, is it a manual type or one connected to your faucet? Python, Aqueon, etc.

A lot of the suction from your gravel vac depends on a few things such as your water pressure, tank level to where you are draining to ( is the tank high and the sink or bucket at the same level or lower? )

Not sure what you mean by the "ring on the top of the vacuum" - can you post a picture?

I have both. Bucket seems better but not that much better. Python is slow and don't suc for . So right now I use pyton tubing and top fine sucer. And take a min for the tube to be clearer. I was reading on line and may give it a try and increase my 5/8 hose to a 3/4 hose. (Be aware that a longer hose reduces the water volume expelled. For example, a 5/8-inch hose 25 feet long produces 44 gallons per minute (gpm). The same diameter hose at 100 feet long has a much smaller output at 11 gpm. Because 3/4-inch hoses have a wider mouth, their output for a 100-foot hose is slightly larger at 18 gpm, but the 25-foot hose increases the water flow to a staggering 72 gpm)
The ring in center of photo.

Get a longer hose and run the end to somewhere lower. The lower the far end the greater suction.

I bought a small electric utility pump and connected it to the vacuum hose it works great. The waterbed faucet attachment for the Python is pretty useless unless you have very high water pressure. The only issue is you have to make sure to keep the gravel from going all the way up the hose as it will jam up the pump. Pump is rated at 360gph and cost about 75 bucks

Maybe run the far end into a big bucket or something so any sucked up gravel will settle out and you can dump it back in the tank.
