How to get Crested Gecko on commercial Gecko Food?

oh I will definitely keep an eye out on stuck shed then, I didnt know that could be an issue with babies. how can you tell if its a flame crested gecko? do you know how long I should wait until I offer it food?

Flames have no pattern on the sides or feet, if it had more pattern other than on its dorsal it would be considered a harlequin it may be a harlequin but I’m not sure, if you’re able to get more pictures of it’s sides I would be able to tell.

Haha I love his name. Wow now that is definitely an upgrade
He is so cute and smol! I wish he had a name... That's his nickname, Attacc gecko, Mr. Sticky Legs... etc.
We still got a year to go for upgrade...

Crazy Story:
I got my baby crestie 1 week AFTER the reptile expo. I took one single focused photo of one baby crested gecko from the one seller. That is the one I choose a week later not ever knowing I wanted it.

Ok I got a pic of it out of the leaves! It doesn't have any pattern on its sides so he is a flame. Is a little skinny but I got him to eat off a plastic spoon

Awesome! Don’t hand feed him too much. They’ll get pretty reliant on it. I had purchased a baby in hopes of breeding it in the future but I later found out through other fellow breeders that the guy I purchased from would supposedly feed his geckos baby food... long story short he has metabolic bone disease and had trouble eating. I would have to show him his dish and get him to start eating out of it, then I would set it down where he could see me doing it. Eventually he got used to where I would place it and he eats an entire feeding on his own

(This gecko is also not going to be bred. He is just a pet. We do not breed geckos with MBD or floppy tail as we’re unsure on if it’s also genetic).

Dont worry my baby was skinny too! I hand fed for many months, only until like 4 months ago he started eating by himself ( That was noticeable) Now I can't hand feed with out getting attacked or bitten... They have a crazy timeline when young when they attack everything, luckily he is getting more calm.

Yeah I know. I just wanted to see if he was hungry, I will have to also show him his dish because I don't think he has found it

So with pangea I don't need any calcium supplements? I got the one made with insects but doesn't say how much calcium is in it unlike the other flavours

I still dust every single cricket with calcium just to be sure! They need to grow nice and strong bones!

I will probably do that as well just in case. Just need to find calcium powder because apparently all my local stores are out of it today lol

I love pangea.

My cresties and I got 3 now including a breeding pair I feed Pangea With Insects and Pangea Banana Papaya as their staple. Then I offer crickets once a week to the adult pair, and few times weekly to my baby one. I dust these with calcium every time. I use a calcium liquid supplement as directed.

quick little update on it! has grown a little bit since I first got it, doesn't fit perfectly on the plants leafs and I have started to handle him/her. pretty easy to handle, is a bit scared of me but not overly jumpy. although I can barely feel him on my hand because the skins is really soft and he/she is pretty light. changed from paper towel to eco earth making it so much easier to keep it humid and I did get a feeding ledge which was a little expensive but wasn't a bad investment.

next weekend I will be going to a reptile specialty store so hopefully I can find some more hides and things I can add to the tank. I also still need a name for my crestie lol

I don’t have that issue... I name everything in minutes. It really frustrates my boyfriend. For instance he just bought a new blue tongue skink...and I’ve already named it Ducky. He doesn’t approve, but if I refer to it as Ducky enough, he eventually falls victI'm to doing it himself.

That’s interesting haha any reason why?

I have a friend whose parents name their dogs by number. The first dog they had was named “Dog” the second was “Two” and so on. Their current dog is named Five... they also have a cat named Cat. They’re really imaginative.

The only reason is if it is less than that we shouldn’t get attached

haha they are definitely creative with their names.

although I can understand not naming pets for awhile just in case something happens but I think its easier to call them by a name for when you talk about them or when you are trying to call them to you.

Yeah I’ve never really thought about it in regards to attachment, that’s a good point.

But I’ve got well over 30 reptiles, it’s easier for me to have names for each of them so my boyfriend knows which one I’m talking about. And the adults at the very least need names for breeding purposes because it makes labeling and keeping track of their babies easier.

In that case cresties deserve a name.
( They live for 30 years ) The original pair caught from New Caledonia in 1995 is still alive right now.

names definitely make it easier to keep track of things like that especially if you have multiple reptiles and are a breeder. I just think its weird to call animals by their breed or species, rather then an actual name lol.

I believe my gecko may be a female because I see no bulge but might be too young. Also started to shed this morning, scared me at first because its shedding on the nose first and was on thr bottom of the tank lol.

Although I think it might not be a flame because yellow patterns are showing up on the sides

I seen the yellow patterns in the previous pictures, it may get more but it would need pattern to the feet too. Flames can have some pattern on the sides, harlequins just have more (as well as foot patterning).

Honestly though, it could grow up to be completely different so these are all just guesses. I seen someone who purchased a baby “Halloween” harlequin crested gecko and it was dark black and dark orange with pattern down the dorsal and on the sides + feet. Now that it’s an adult, it turned out to be a completely patternless olive green gecko. That’s why as a breeder, I like to grow them out to at least juveniles so I’m not selling them with just guesses of what their morphs are.

Haha gotta love it when reptiles suddenly become the opposite gender. I will get some pics once I get home!

Also starting to get yellow on the legs and feet. didnt know cresties can change their colours dramatically. Thought they stay the same pattern and colour

I honestly thought they did too, most of the time they probably will - but some can end up looking different. Like for instance with a baby dalmatian gecko; it can turn out to be a super dalmatian when it gets older because more spots develop (though Dalmatian is more of a trait than an actual morph). I would still consider your crested to be a flame. Harlequins generally have more pattern than a few spots on the sides and feet, but like I said - it may develop more. Flames are still amazing cresteds and I honestly think they don’t get enough credit due to their high availability. I’ll include a picture of my favorite gecko, Texas Petite she’s a flame though she does have some pattern on her sides and feet.

Looks really similar to mine. So its possible mine is a flame. Its sad how the more common colours/morphs are overlooked when they are just as pretty as the more rare ones. I'm kinda excited to see how much it will change.

Looks like it finished shedding when I got home. I don't see any stuck shed which is good. Also found zoomeds new powdered gecko food at my local store. Its supposed to be really good so I'm testing out the watermelon flavour and will likely try out the tropical fruit flavour as well. Hopefully will like one of the flavours so I don't have to order food online lol

Oh my!! How adorable!

And I was apparently mistaken on the gecko I posted. My boyfriend said it’s a low expression harlequin and not a flame. So I’m gonna have to say yours is too, especially with the picture you just posted. I see more pattern than just those yellow/green spots in the previous pictures. I think it’s because he’s “fired up” in this picture and he was fired down in the other ones.

And I agree with you on the more common ones being over looked. I love simple geckos and I would love to breed more of them, but the market is so flooded with them now they’re hard to find appropriate homes for.

And the ZooMed food is pretty good, but I would only do it a few times a week and use Pangea or Repashy as the staple diet. This is only because the ZooMed foods are a bit higher in sugar and it’s really not that healthy for them - and they kind of get a sweet tooth for that kind of stuff and will refuse other foods if they’re not as high in sugar haha. They’re literally like small children.

does look like a harlequin just not as intense as they usually are. yeah he does have quite a bit of patterns that I can't always get on camera, a few dark stripes here and there for example is one. ive heard about them being fired up but not completely sure what that means.

ive always been drawn to the more simple and common morphs, colourations, etc when it comes to animals. people usually think I'm weird because of that lol. they are too common so less people are drawn to them which is sad because they are pretty amazing looking animals.

really? ive seen a lot of reviews and breeders saying it was healthy and can be used as a staple. luckily I got pangea watermelon and mango flavour on the way then plus some of the origional food still so I can switch the food up every so often
