How-to ... Furan-2 / Klanaplex

I'm currently half way through parasite treatment using API General Cure.

What I THOUGHT was parasites is actually most likely a case of columnaris. So, I'd like to begin treatment using anti-biotics.

I've heard a combination of Furan-2 and Klanaplex works well for this issue.

Do you use these meds at exactly the same time, or Furan-2 followed by a round of Klanaplex?

Also, can I begin this treatment while I'm in the middle of parasite treatment?

I'm redosing Gen Cure today, then 25% water change in two days. I read directions on Furan-2 and it says do 2 doses (over 2 days) then change 25% of water... so, if I use this med at the same time as my Gen Cure, it would actually work out to change the water at exactly the same time.

Thanks,

I would do a water change after using the General Cure. Then you can add the other 2 together.

Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely do the water change after the Gen Cure.

However, do you (or anyone else reading this) know if I CAN do them both at the same time?

One of my fish (and I'm sure soon others) has a bad bacteria infection. Idk if it can wait another 2 days until treatment. But, if it's too stressful for the tank I might have to wait.

Thoughts?

It's usually recommended NOT to combine medications but see what others have to say.

Thanks, I've heard mixed opinions.

Can anyone else here chime in on mixing API General Cure and API Furan-2?

Also, any ill-effects for the Furan on plecos or snails?

Thanks!

I have a pleco and used it. No Ill affects. I also did some research and it looks like you can use General Cure and Furan-2 together.

Yeah water changes,ARE good, however, to be 100% sure, (although it may take a few days) you may have to use carbon between dosings of medications. As yes, some medications advise NOT to mix with other medications. Just be careful!

Thanks, SFGiants!

So you'd recommend waiting between Gen Cure and Furan 2 ? (After Gen Cure is done, do water change + add carbon for a day or two, then begin Furan treatment?)

I'm concerned my fish with the suspected columnaris won't make it til then. He did start to act slightly better last night though, maybe he can hold out.

He's cloudy / cottony / filmy white all over his head and eye. One other fish is beginning to develop it very slowly, the others are fine.
